Stoic has released a 5-minute video of The Banner Saga: Factions, again reminding that this is exactly what the single-player combat is like:

Wow, can't believe how nice the artwork is for this game. The 2D animated look is very refreshing. Their artist(s) are very talented. Love the UI as well.

The system looks just as yucky as the similar one in pirate101 game - the only difference is that pirate101 looks better.
Don't get me wrong, I bailed pirate101 quickly as I got utterly bored and I probably won't buy The Banner Saga either.

I think it looks pretty awesome. Out of all the projects I've backed this is the one Im looking forward to the most I think. I just love the art, I've been reading their forum and Im just in love with this game.
.
Joxer, I understand that everyone has different tastes and all that. But I really don't get the Banner Saga and Pirate101 comparison? Unless you were being sarcastic and I completly missed it.
Pirate101 from what I understand of their web page and what I read of mmorpg.com, is a F2P MMO with cutesey generic 3d graphics and self proclaimed family friendly content. It also doesn't have a central story or such (Like most MMOs).

(Pirate101 is a free-to-play, pirate-themed MMOG from KingsIsle Entertainment, makers of Wizard101. The game is set in the same universe as its wizard-themed predecessor, so players can expect to continue to challenge the Clockwork Empire. Players begin the game by creating a pirate and then setting out to gain a ship and crew. Pirate101 offers swashbuckling ground combat, but its main fighting focus is comprised of ship-to-ship combat high in the sky among the skyways and floating islands in the Weave. )
While The Banner Saga is a single player RPG with TBS combat. It's a game with a lot of mature content, a deep story line and huge lore background…That will be realesed over 3 full campains. The Lore is a nice read for anyone remotely interested. (http://stoicstudio.com/forum/lore.php)
Also, the graphics are more of a 2d "hand painted" type.

Banner Saga Factions is a bit different I guess. I mean it's a different game in that it's only the combat engine pretty much, taken out of the game and released on steam as a free multiplayer game. It helps them test and balance the combat so its also fun during the single player game….and it gets the word out.

Holy smokes, that looks good! Love the hand-drawn art and the animation work. So glad I backed this. Now if they only would get the single-player game done. Wasn't the original release date December 2012 or something? I think they said (after the KS was done) that with all the extra stuff from extra funding that it's more like 2nd quarter 2013. Here's hoping that estimate holds.

That artwork is beautiful! I can't wait for this game. I thought i was supposed to be out by the end of the year? Wonder if it's still on track?
