Cradle - A New Open World Fantasy Game

Cradle is a new open world fantasy game with RPG elements. It's being developed by a studio called Mojo Game Studios. They have a tech video based on the CRYENGINE.

Cradle is an open-world fantasy adventure game for the PC in development by Mojo Game Studios. It’s the story of an exiled traveler caught at the center of a monumental struggle between humanity, nature, and the gods. In addition to an immersive narrative experience set in a breathtaking world to explore, Cradle offers an exciting new type of strategic first-person melee-combat experience. The game features five playable character classes, four unique open worlds, an augmentable weapon and armor system, competitive multiplayer, and much more.

Looks like that Fantasia is getting swallowed up by the nothing again.

I don't think they could avoid the word "RPG" in a PR blurb any more obviously…

It's Sunday and I'm not picky about what I post on the weekend. I said in the sentence above it only has RPG elements. Don't expect a full fledged RPG.

When I read the name, I thought it was another game and was a bit confused. But that other one is being developed by Flying Cafe for Semianimals and is also called Cradle.

That video was confusing to say the least. The only impression I'm left with is how annoying and loud that walking/running sound was.

Doesn't mean it won't be a good game. It just means I haven't got a clue whether or not it will be.

I couldn't get over the footstep sound. A combination of walking in pea-gravel and denim jean thigh-chafing (which is always bad when you're running from the Lost polar bear).

Otherwise the music was cool, and it looks like a neat environment.

Sounds like an RPG/Shooter hybrid… though the "shooting" is going to be melee weapons. Damage will depend on what you hit, though, not die rolls and skills. Could be fun, we'll have to wait and see.

(I really hope those footstep sounds are place holders!)

This was for use at our first attendance of GDC almost a complete year ago.

The Mojo Team has completely revamped this entire opening level and updated the graphics significantly.

It's kind of perplexing they released this video with such a strong disclaimer. Without knowing any of the team's inside baseball, I'd probably suggest they held off until they could show a more recent version of the game. But thanks for the post anyway Couch… gave me something to read on a Sunday.

Wow! We really didn't expect this to get spread all over the internet. But please understand, this was our demo for last year's GDC summit! Cradle has included numerous graphical updates and completely redesigned levels since this time.

We are heading to Kickstarter soon, and new videos are being released this week that feature our current state. (Which is a blast in the future from where this was, considering this is almost a year old! We're glad that the footsteps is the main factor)

We released this video almost a year ago right after GDC!

What I did do though was make a progressive post on Indie DB explaining the amazing year we had! From this post it seems that a few of the right people connected and spread the material for the first time, it was unexpected that it would go viral! We were just trying to explain some of our milestones in development and give a before and after look at Cradle's development. Because we're headed to our next big avenue, Kickstarter!

No problem at all! You could imagine the whole team's reaction when I said…

Me"
"Guys, guys, guys… our video just got over 6,000 plays in one night, and is being featured all over the place!"

Them:
"Which video?"

Me:
"The GDC trailer from last year."

Them:
"DELETE IT! DELETE IT! DELETE IT!"

Me:
"I promise it will be okay, they will understand this was our prototype."

One of the best reactions we've received throughout all the sites was…
"Annoying walking simulator."

We're just glad they're focused on the sound of footsteps because that was a minor detail!

This is all we can produce as of right now. The ETA on both the gameplay and Kickstarter videos is sometime within the next 10 days. I will be sure to update then!
