Mass Effect 3 - Retrospective @ GameOnDaily
January 25th, 2014, 01:12
GameOnDaily posted a new retrospective for Mass Effect 3.
Mention Mass Effect 3 to a regular gamer and you are likely to illicit one of two reactions, one would be a general proclamation of love followed a shrugged shoulders at the ending, the second rarer reaction would be an insane scream and a punch to the face, followed by them running off to post a jiffy bag full of anthrax to Bioware.More information.
If you were to get the second reaction, you can surmise that they really love Mass Effect and secondly they perhaps need to work on their anger management.
With a couple of years of gaming under the belt since the ending of Commander Shepard’s epic story arc, it’s now possible to have some perspective on what Bioware actually achieved and in the sober light of day, all that ruckus over the ending now seems, well a little disproportionate.

"A little disproportionate" just about sums up my impression of the response. Problem: "yes, it's a nice house but there's some cobwebs in the attic"; nerd-rage response: "nuke it from orbit, it's the only way to be sure!"

I enjoyed ME3 more than ME2, but the first game is my favorite by far. The 3 endings were a bad idea though imo. They should have just made a single ending that reflected all the decisions you made throughout the trilogy.

I still think ME3 was by far the worst in series. I was especially disappointed about ending. Very disappointed. Your military strength and readiness should have affected ending in a different way. Let me explain. What I think would have been better idea is something like this:
Instead of Earth being vaporised without any good reason other than your military strength *number* is low, they should have explained it better. Something like, Earth was vaporised because Crucible got badly damaged during transportation to the Citadel, because the Reaper force attacked it heavily and Shepard's forces weren't in greater number nor ready for the Reaper forces. Similar goes to better endings. Earth is devastated because Crucible was damaged. Best ending - Earth makes it because Crucible suffered minor damage. Something like that.
Ofcourse… I would have been more happy with indoctrination ending…. *sigh*
