This is especially true with our pathetically stupid monetary system - because with limited resources, more (of nothing) for one person often means less (of something) for another person.

Well, considering I've been a statistic since the end of January, any change could have to be classified as a good one. Made it official today. Gonna be a "Program Manager" for a large automotive supplier, which means I, errr, manage the introduction of new parts for the company, from the design phase all the way to full production. Should be fun.

"Executive" might be pushing it a bit. It's probably a step up the food chain, but I'm sure the guys on the shop floor willl confirm I'm still just a dumbass engineer.

Interesting thread, and it seems the average age of the Watch is way above most other gaming sites. That might explain the fact that we're (mostly) civil to each other.

I work as a Personal Trainer with a reasonable amount of administrative duties at the gym thrown in. And as a swimming teacher. And as a Group training instructor. And…well, that's pretty much it.

Before I had my daughter I worked 60hour weeks on regular basis, but since she arrived two years ago I've been keeping it at a manageable 40-50 hours. My girlfriend absolutely HATES the fact that I like to play games to the point of it being scary. So I tend to only play games when I'm home alone or with my daughter and she sleeps, which is at best an hour or so a day. She sleeps too little. Morphine?

I agree. Reading throzugh the SWTOR forums is just horrible … Worst of them are the PvP sub-forums (all languages except French which I can't understand) …

Belated Congratulations DTE!

I'm still the owner(twenty-seven years now) of an automotive salvage yard. My wife, children, employees and customers have taken all my free time so I trade sleep for gaming.

As I have started a new job, I thought it would be interesting to update this thread.

I have started working as a Sourcing/Procurement Manager at a bank in the UK.
It is very different to my previous job which was as a consultant in the same type of work.

I am still working on Procurement deals and working with large suppliers, but now I am a permanent employee of who would previously have been a client.

I enjoy almost every aspect of this job better than before, for example, the shorter hours (most of the time): I tend to work regular people hours now instead of 12-hour days. I also travel vastly less then before, so I am home more often.
This means I can actually do things when I get home and I even started going to the gym again (albeit once a week ). I go ice-skating with my wife once in a while and I now have more time for games again.

On weekends, I no longer feel like I simply want to do nothing and I am much more keen on going out with friends and socialising

The only negative aspects are less interesting projects, progression and pay. I am paid the same as at my previous job, and I am unlikely to move up for the next three years or so. The job's projects are less interesting because there is a lot of "firefighting" involved and not enough strategic thinking.

So, anyone else have updates ?

Bobo the Bouncer. That's great. Because for some reason I picture you to look much like your profile pic. Or some bearded lumberjack from the Swiss Alps.

My profession has fluctuated over the years. I've done a lot of self-employed ventures and online businesses. Currently thinking about doing music full time. Been tinkering with the idea for years and it seems like it's the right time to give it a shot.

Swiss Alps which are very near from where I am are far (European relatively speaking) from Bobo the Bouncer.

Some of you have a flexibility in the professional domain which are amazing for me

I am a data "expert" since over 20 years now. Was in IBM, Microsoft and now since 7 years in another company.

Dunno if I replied before, but I am (still) a full-time project manager. With full-time I mean that I don't do anything else than that. My SW developing and architecture days are over. Almost all of my projects are software based, with an occasional combination with a physical device (either bought or self made). The SW part of the projects are always executed in an agile fashion, either Scrum or Kanban. The projects are mostly in the late development stage, meaning there is not much room for exploration and stuff like that, it is focused on getting a product on the market on time. That includes dealing with Quality Management Systems, regulatory requirements, proper project documentation and improving the overall quality of the product to be released over time. That is what I do well, I don't do to good in managing projects in the exploratory phase or early prototype phase. These type of projects require a different type of project manager than me and quite regularly also different SW developers (but not always). Not everybody is good in all phases of development. I learned to know my limits in that aspect a few years ago.
I moved to the Senior Project Managers group of my company, which probably means I am getting old and am considered a senior
It actually results in being able to get better projects and that it is far easier to evolve myself as a project manager. Not that there is a financial improvement with that evolvement. I hit my financial ceiling years ago.
