Default Arkane Studios - Dishonored 2 Details?

July 10th, 2014, 12:19
According to Now Gamer they have information from an insider about Dishonored 2. Now i should point out please take this with a grain of salt.

A number of details about Arkane Studio's in-development Dishonored 2 have been revealed to NowGamer by a source with knowledge regarding the game's development.

According to our source, Dishonored 2 is being developed at Arkane's Lyon studio, with Harvey Smith - co-creative director alongside Raphael Colontonio on the first Dishonored - heading the project.

Dishonored 2 could be set to star a new protagonist, with our source revealing that Arkane has had discussions about replacing Dishonored's main character, Corvo, with Emily Kaldwin.

Emily Kaldwin is a child in the first Dishonored, suggesting that Dishonored 2 will be set some time after the original.

It is likely that much of Dishonored 2 will take place in new areas outside of Dunwall (the City in which the first game is set), though our source could not give us details on exactly what locations the player will visit in Dishonored 2.

There are four islands that have been established within the fictional world of Dishonored: Gristol (where Dunwall is located), Tyvia, Morley and Serkonos, so it is unsurprising that Arkane is looking at visiting new locations in Dishonored's sequel.
More information.

Emily Kaldwin? That would be really interesting and awesome! I hope they do it.

Emily simply can't be the main character. She is not an assassin type and even thinking of turning her into it is rediculous.
Unless they're planning to make a completely different game.

She's a 10 y/o girl in the first game. Advance 20 years and a every person may become a criminal, an assassin, a psychopathic serial killer or even an exchange broker without the biography being implausible.
I doubt Corvo snipered squirrels with his slingshot when he was 10.

No. It doesn't work that way.

I can become a (certain type of) criminal or an assassin because I have it in me since I was born. Can't become psychopathic serial killer as it's against my reasoning developed in childhood, and can't become an exchange broker because I hate all types of scam again since my childhood.

Some other people can't go psychopathic serial killer but can go exchange broker job, I wish all those EA scammers left game industry and pursued that career.

The child from the first game can become a criminal or an exchange broker, but never an assassin. She doesn't have it in her.
If she does become an assassin in the sequel, it's a huge plot hole unless they perform a lobotomy on her.

An assassin has to be a psychopath?

Nah, all it takes is a place where the general perception of human life is that it has no significant value, which you don't have to look far to find, even in our own world.

Sad, but very true.

There's a reason we slaughter living beings by the millions without breaking a sweat.

Good thing joxer has me on ignore, or he might learn something. He sure could use it

Well, I think it doesn't work the way you describe it.
But that's a thing I won't discuss in a game forums and a thing where I actually don't have enough expertise to discuss seriously.

For me it wouldn't be a problem if she became an assassin. That's a fact.

I've stopped playing right before what I think was the final mission. It just became to repetitive for me. Just no my favorite genre.

I won't play the sequel if there aren't some more RPG elements included.

I on the other hand hope the protagonist is NOT an assassin. The over the top killing is what turned me off from the first game.

I assume the game wont force you to kill. So they dont need to make her assassin. A spy, maybe?
If players prefer to play assassins they will let them to do so. As you can see from Tomb Raider or other big games, publishers dont care if hero looks like brutal assassin in over-the-top action gameplay, while in cut-scenes he is portrayed as pretty sensible guy/girl (so the complete package doesnt make sense).

There's also the continent of Pandyssia which was mentioned in several journals throughout the game. It's something akin to Akavir in TES. I found it to be one of the more interesting things mentioned in the game lore.

errrr… in Dishonored, over the top killing happened only if you have chosen to kill people Thrasher. It's like choosing to work in a slaughterhouse and than complain that the sight of blood makes you ill.

Well, wouldn't choose to work in a slaughterhouse, either. The game was designed to assassinate people. Playing in a way that doesn't kill people is a difficult and special achievement, not the normal and well-advertised (with gory through the mouth spearings) psychopathic playstyle.

Playing in a way that doesn't kill people was not a special hard way of playing at all; it was one of two main modes of playing (lethal vs non-lethal). Playing without being detected at all is what you might be thinking of - but there were plenty of non-lethal ways to take down enemies (for example stealth take downs let you either kill or incapacitate).

Well that's good to know, but it certainly wasn't advertised as such, and that was the crux of my point of why I wasn't attracted to it.

Really? Dishonored wasn't advertised as a game that would give you a choice between stealth and combat?

Ok…
