Default Are there multiple NPC's that can join your party?

Was reading on another forum that you have two PCs, then can recruit two more NPCs, but there are only 2 NPCs that are joinable in the game at this point (more to come via DLC or something?).

Is that correct?

For now though Larian has confirmed they will be patching more companions in. You can also hire other companions (maybe hirelings is a better term) but they lack the personality of the 2 being referred to.

Well, I'm quite fine with the "hirelings" dfrom Cyseal : They get small dialogs started, too … With these, they reveal their background story and character a little bit …

That is not correct. When you unlock a certain room in your base (End Of Time), you'll be able to recruit a mass of different sidekicks.
Unlike those two in the first town, they won't suck up to you nor protest. But also they don't have a separate story quest. If they did, I'd hire every single one of them to finish that quest. But let's be serious, it's impossible to make a separate substory for 50 NPCs and still not drop into a (plot)hole.

Which in reality plays like this. I shoved off that blackmailer mage in the first town and got myself a bows skilled rogue in the base. But the female warrior is a top damage dealer. She stays.

can't you customize the companions like in the character creation? or are the initial selections fixed? (was thinking that if I got a warrior but I already have a warrior I could rearrange selections to make her a thief or something). I haven't played yet, waiting for the AI personality patch, but was curious.

The two companions with personality already have classes and looks, although the skill system is flexible enough with points that you can customize them as you want (no set skill trees just areas anyone can put points into). If you grab them early I'm sure you could make the mage a fighter or the fighter a mage or anything else.

If you're asking if NPCs distribute attributes, skills and talents on levelup automatically, the answer is no. You build them. You can't change their initial class and stats.

I obviously missed that. Do you have a source?

I believe DLC patch with companions is something only EA does to milk you.

Found the source: There was an interview at pcgamer.com a few days ago, where Swen said that they will add more companions in August.

Hm… don't know if I'll wait that long. My problem is that I that Jahan is quite the type of character I wanted to play as my main character. So my alternatives are either to take Jahan with me nevertheless, or to take a henchmen instead, or to go with Madora alone, or to wait til August.

Is it true that if I go with my 2 main chars and Madora alone, that I could give one of my main chars the Lone Wolf Talent?

And how is XP distribution handled? Will I get more XP per character when I have less characters with me, so with 3 chars I'd level up more quickly in comparison to having 4?

Jahan is not a type of character I want to play. He's xenophobic. As such is not in my party at all.

Yes you can give only one character Lone Wolf talent and play as a party of three.
XP is still the same. According to those who finished the game, XP pool doesn't allow you to go above level 22 as mobs don't respawn. So far noone discovered any bug to grind more XP.

Thanks. Still unsure though, tending to play with a party of 3. I'll decide when I have finally finished TW2.
