Chapter questions

It's been awhile since I've played Risen 2, but seem to recall it being based on the number of Isles completed or visited. Yet, I keep running into chapter blocks, such as getting behind the gate Taranis or Kila.
Afaik I am still in chapter 1, so in case I have a bug my current progress:
I can't seem to find any info on what causes the chapter changes or which is actually the main story from the quest log. Could someone please list what event causes chapter 2 and chapter 3 to start?

Chapter 1: First island
Chapter 2: Leaving the first island after you lost your soul
Chapter 3: you have met all factions and Alvarez and give Eldric on Calador the Grimoire
Chapter 4: After the meeting with the mages at Margoloth's cave
