Shadowrun: Dragonfall - Review @ FTG
October 27th, 2014, 09:01
Here is another review that was released this week for the Director's Cut version of Shadowrun: Dragonfall. This time it's from FTG who gave the game a 8.5/10.
Shadowrun: Dragonfall – Director’s Cut feels like an incredibly well-written virtual Dungeons & Dragons campaign ran by a top-notch dungeon master. And though the combat is not the driving force and it’s not without its bugs, it’s one of the most well-done stories this year. I can’t say enough good things about how interesting the world of Shadowrun is and how important my choices felt moment-to-moment. Factor in the game’s level editor, Steam Workshop support, and extensive tools for making a completely new campaign, and I’ll definitely be revisiting this gem for months and months to come.More information.

I played the Director's Cut and stopped at start on last level since I don't think there is anything new in it and I done it twice already in vanilla Dragonfall.
The new content is great (mostly better than vanilla Dragonfall) and enough of it for people that played the vanilla. I recommend people to play it.
If you never played Dragonfall at all, this game is your must play game if you are a rpg fan. Even if you don't like turn based combat, the storytelling is of level just below Mask of Betrayer and PST and above everything else and the game is worth playing because of that.

For me it's a little sad. In general I don't have time enough to replay games. So I won't experience the Director's Cut any time soon. Seems I really need to wait longer before playing a game to get the best experience.

People who wait will never have that - they'll just have the single "best" experience - without fresh content on subsequent replays.

Yes, it was good. And I'm sure I'd like the Director's Cut as well.
But I think I'll have more fun with a fresh game like Wasteland 2 or DA:I because I guess I already know most of the parts of Dragonfall…

Just trying to put a positive spin on it.
It's one reason why I don't want to wait forever before I play a desirable game. I'd rather have two "fresh" playthroughs than a single one which I'll have to wait 6-12 months for.

There are games coming out almost every day it seems, so there's always something to play.
Maybe I'm alone in this, but there are always games I want to play MORE than others - even if they're all worth playing.
However, I kinda need to actually play them to make sure which one I'll play right now - and as such, I can't really wait for long.

For an isometric old-school semi-tactical thing without voice acting and with not-quite-that-good-visuals they did quite good (given that I loathe isometric tactical thingies without VO and poor graphics). The dialogues and description seem like those short stories or small bits of text that come in pen & paper games just to give flavour to the rules that come next, and that - in my opinion - was what they did right. I don't know how the game was before, but the director's cut is one of the few recent cRPGs that I did finish and liked. And I am not even a fan of the P&P Shadowrun setting, so this must have something quite different from the whole let's-make-games-like-it-was-the-90s fashion.

One of the best games I have played in recent memory. I would probably give it a 9/10. I loved how their is some challenging combat (playing on the higher difficulty levels) which could often be resolved by learning and tailoring your tactics to each particular battle. I did not play the DLC version and waited for version 2.0.6.
