Default Witcher 3 Delayed to May 2015

December 12th, 2014, 11:31
Well, it only partly of track I guess…. because one could argue if the delay will make TW3 better than TW2… and was such a thing the case in TW2 compared to TW1 ?

If delays always made games better, Duke Nukem Forever would have been the greatest game ever made.

And it’s not like the Witcher 3 will be in development longer than Witcher 2 either, even with the delays. Both will have a dev cycle of 4 years.

What was that game that John Romero made? Daikanato or something. That was delayed a bunch and that mess ruined his career.

Daikatana.
And his PR was simple - something like the game is will be so good I'll pwn your arse.

The game, of course, was… Not so good.
But not only Daikatana ruined his career, but that time's gem among RPGs, probably the most underrated game ever, didn't get the praise it deserves. Just because it was made by the same company. If only someone made a remake (just polishing outdated graphics, not HD milkem crap, but completely new engine!, everything else is still brilliant)…

That might have been when they announced the delay to February. They even set a fixed date which was 2/24/2015. This delay here, however, was announced on the day that the original post was made and has not been known before, of course.

Well the last announcement was a few months back about the game being delayed from late 2014 to February 2015 with a promise there wouldn't be another delay.

The new release date is now May 2015. Thankfully it's only a few months this time, and not a whole year. Now the lesson learned here is never believe what a developers says.

Update: Seems I have been beaten by another member with the answer.

There is so much hype on this one it can't do anything than disappoint. The pressure on the devs must be enormous, hence the delays ?

Why would the dev have any pressure beside finishing the games they are working on exactly? Hype has 0 effect on devs, because they are totally unaware of it. Official web forums do not show how much people are making games to be the new messiah.

I meant devs more as in the "studio". Regardless, I do think devs are aware. Maybe not very much, depending on the studio (indie) and individual, but they are not all completely ignorant.

Or do they completely ignore fan feedback every time they release one of their trailers, gameplay vids or screenshots ?

Don't mix PR and marketing with actual game devs.

Yeah, not everyone of course.

But then again, I think I saw the ubisoft devs lunching in Montreal and they looked blissfully unaware.
