Some feedback from my side to the video: Please make sure you use the same settings (software and things like distance to the microphone) for all recordings. This little thing would increase the level of professionalism quite a bit in my eyes.

That would be your votes? Because they are all already on the list.

a little off topic but you could add to your list of games fixed by fan patches

Arcanum, Temple of Elemental Evil, and Ultima 9

Although the biggest and best fix for Arcanum doesn't address any of the balancing issues and isn't compatible with the other ones from what I understand either.

Though not great, from what I understand, but part of the fix for U9 came clandestinely from Garriot's design team who were let go from EA after that stinker. they were inspired by the other half of the patch, the dialogue fix that makes U9 more sensical and answers what happens between U8 and U9.

I haven't used Google here, but I think if my memory serves right, those first two games (Arcanum and ToEE) were early 2000's, like 2002-2004 or so.

yeah, it was off topic. http://www.xp4t.com/ has another thread extolling the virtues of games fixed by fans.

/me wonders if there was a fan made fix for KotOR2. Obsidian only made one beta patch for it IIRC.

Impressive! However, I'm not quite sure what you want me to do with your list of treasures. A lot of those are already on the list of the Best RPG's of the 1990's Pre-Poll and a lot of them aren't actually RPG's at all.
If you have some suggestions that aren't already on the list, then by all means, let us know!

I do remember it as being heavier on the action than the original System Shock.
However, it is still classified as a first-person action RPG, so it should be on that list.

Okay, I have overlooked some of the mentioned games

Remove

Amberstar
Legend of Faerghail
Startrail

The rest is not on the Pre-poll list.

For them not all being RPGs, well as long as you have Fantasy Empires on the list, which is a 100% strategy game, I think we can stretch it a little.

BTW: Cutting the list in half makes sense to me, too.

I definitely consider the Quest for Glory games to be RPGs, along with Septerra Core. The QFG games have multiple classes that change how you play the game, turn-based and state-based battles, character leveling, looting, and multiple endings depending on how you play the game. Sure, they are also point-and-click adventure games, but I think they meet the criteria to be considered an RPG. Although Septerra Core plays more like a typical console RPG, it was developed for and released on PC.

Yeah QFG's are hybrid adventure RPG's. Diablo is an action RPG. Both should be on the list.

Heck, if enough people really want it on the list, then we COULD add it.
What does everybody think?
I think it should be added. It was influential to the industry in a lot of ways, and the gateway for others to be introduced to RPGs. Besides, the reason for the polls is to decide this stuff anyways, right?

Although I'm sure most of the votes will go to the heavyweights like U7, BG, PS:T and Fallout.

This list is bringing back lots of memories.

Sounds about right. And while BG1 was a mind blowingly good game when it was released, that was almost entirely because of the infinity engine being superior to anything that had been used in a serious RPG before. I tried to replay it a few years later after I'd played BG2 several times, and I found it kind of dull in comparison.

I looked for EOB on the 1980s list because I'm pretty sure i played it in 1989. I'm pretty sure because I got my sound blaster in 1989 and EOB was the first game I played to the glory of digitized audio. However, I checked wikipedia and it says 1991. This screenshot says 1990:

I'm sticking with 1989, dammit. My memory never fails me.

The Copyright note is almost always in the past from what I know.

In game magazine of 1/91 (which releases in December already afaik) it was still a preview:

The full test was then done 5/91 http://www.kultpower.de/archiv/hefte…991-05_021.jpg

How about Heroquest? Awesome game, both PC and board, came out in 1991, and I replayed it a few years ago and had a blast.

Thanks for those screenshots! I wasn't even aware there were any Germans using IBM compatible PCs back then, before the information age, let alone enough to be worthy of magazines doing reviews of MS-DOS games. Interesting

Haha, well, I don't actually think that there was and still is any Country with more Magazines Covering PC games, than Germany.
In the early 90s you had:
PC Joker, ASM, PC Player, Power Play, Play Time, PC Review, PC Games and probably a couple more.
And due to some circumstances I got them all, almost as good as internet
