Default Known Issues and workarounds

Well, thanks for the heads-up. I'm conflicted - on one hand, I am really enjoying the game and don't want to put it down. On the other, I'm afraid of my luck running out and finally encountering one of these bugs. I may have already and just not noticed it- I'll have to load a save the next time I play to double-check.

I also really don't want to start over - I'm quite invested in my playthrough

Well, I regularly check my stats and haven't seen anything unusual so far. But I'm sure that I've saved/loaded in companion-areas, so I think I'll need to recheck.
Think instead of continuing PoE I'll fire up my Totwal War campaign and lead the Saxons to world domination.

Haven't see anything unusual in my stats to be fair. The only gamebreaking bug I found is in Raedric's Hold - the one where at some point after I just had cleared the maps and finished the quest, I couln't exit. Rage quit for a whole day or so, and then … I just loaded a previous save, replayed about 2 hours (not counting the time spend in the keep) and soldiered on to the rest of the game. The other area I'm staying clear from for the time being is the Endless path, which I hear there is a similar bug or something. Maybe there'll be a patch to fix this, before I reach the endgame?

I have two weeks off work and I'm hoping for a patch right quick…

The stat accumulation bug seems to affect NPC's exclusively though, can that be confirmed? I'm not using those anyway.

If you read the previously linked thread in Obsidian forums, there's a similar problem with the main character. The devs are working on it btw.

It seems to be related to NPCs, and their boosts are getting multiplied in certain circumstances. I haven't seen it myself, but there are many reports, so I'm sure it's accurate.

I did experience a few annoying bugs:
- I lost my Fire Godlike ability after double clicking gear on. That's a pretty big bonus down the drain.
- There are at least two quests that simply can't be completed:
Spoiler – Unsolvable quests

Not sure what "normal" stats are so it's hard to judge if my game is bugged. :/

Anything above 19 (or 20) when you don't wear any gear is bugged. That's the max you can get at character creation depending on race and background.

A smaller issue I found:
Barter/shop bug: if you put an item in the sell area at a vendor just to check the price and then put it back in your inventory the item can lose all the enchantments you put on it. A bit annoying…

This is on the OSX version of the game.

Does anyone know the actual formula for Deflection (and/or other derived stats)?

The wiki page says that "it is mostly determined by level and class and is influenced by Resolve and Perception".
It is known how much Deflection points you get by class and you can check the boni from Resolve and Perception on the character record. But how many points do you get for each level?

My current level 5 naked Edér has Deflection 39, where 25 come from the starting value for fighters and +2 bonus from Resolve 12. That makes 27, missing 12 points. So either a fighter gets +2.4 Deflection per level including the first level or +3.0 Deflection per level up or my Edér is bugged.

Fortitude is 56, starting value 10, +12 from Might, +12 from constitution, making 34, missing 22. So that would be +4.4 Fortitude per level or 5.5 Fortitude per level up.
Doesn't look right.

Ok… bug occurs in my game too. Equipped Sagani in the Woodend Plains with nothing but a Rinf of Minor Deflection (+5 Deflcetion) and quicksaved and quickloaded a few times: each save/load cycle added +5 to Sagani's deflection. So most likely Aloth and Edér are bugged as well as I saved/reloaded a few times in the Gilded Vale where they most likely already had some gear.

So I'm going to shelve it for now.

Deflection is increased by 3 each level for every classes after the first level and each class start with a base deflection between 25 and 15. Shields, hatchets (+5) and some magical items add to deflection as well and Perception/Resolve have +1 deflection for each point above 10.

Fortitude, Reflex and Will also all increase by 3 each levels. They used to be calculated via a formula for each of the two stats involved though, now I really don't know how it work though.

Ok, then my Edér is bugged. Not because of Deflection, but Fortitude.

The rest is simple for a naked character without active abilities. It's +1 for each appropriate attribute point over 10 and -1 vor every attrubite point under 10. So it's:

Code:
Deflection = base + (3 * (level - 1)) + (Per - 10) + (Res - 10)
Base value depends on class (25 for fighter). So for a fighter level 5 with Perception 10 and Resolve 12 (Edér) it should be:
Code:
25 + 12 + 0 + 2 = 39
Fortitude should be
Code:
20 + 12 + 6 + 6 = 44
with Might and Constitution 16.

Well, my stats are bugged, too. Hah. 77 hours only to find out your stats are bugged! I hope the first patch fixes them for saved games as well.

Hah! Well I'm not playing this for the combat, really. It's the story, lore, characters, exploration, etc.. If it were strategic turn-based I'd be more annoyed. RTwP is such a cluster-9*(&*&#$, I don't care so much.

My naked 4th level Eder is
Defense
58 Deflection 58 Fortitude 38 Reflex 46 Will

Health
496

Looks bugged? Oh well…

Stuff like that bothers me immensely, though. I want the experience the developers intended, not having a Super Eder or Deathbringer Durance, unless it was built on my own and not using bugs.

The past 48 hours or so have just been a heck of a time for me with this game. First, I discover nasty bugs in my game that cause me to consider shelving it for awhile, then I find out that the strategy guide has errors, and now I see that my stats are bugged, too! Oi, vey! When it rains, it pours.

Yes, well, at least the bugs aren't game killers, though. Like some of their earlier games.

The bugs I have experienced are basically "game killers" for me, indirectly. I'm shelving it until a patch or 2, and I never thought I'd be saying that…
