Prima Strategy Guide + Obsidian Guidebook

Well it's not unheard of to release a revised edition strategy guide. They did it for Skyrim but unfortunately I have a feeling POE won't be big enough to get that kind of treatment.
I don't mind if some of the rules are in error as I wouldn't rely on the guide for rules but hopefully things like items and walk through are error free.

It's not that I 'rely' on the guidebook or guide. Of course you can just Google pretty much whatever relevant info you need. It's more of simply wanting an accurate tome to pore over and when I read it in my spare time, I would like to not have to doublecheck or second-guess if the info in it is correct.
I'm not asking a lot, just for a strategy guide that is actually accurate!

Sometimes they cut material when they "upgrade" a book to make room for DLC content. I think did that in the Oblivion book. Sneaky way to get you to buy both, maybe…
I was so burned out with Skyrim at one point, that I didn't even bother checking. Still haven't got the DLC.

Hey, I would gladly get a refund on the Error Guide and buy the new one, *if* they can guarantee that the material is correct.

You want to read an "error guide", read the one for Vampire The Masquerade: Bloodlines.

Some of these massive RPGs, I'm not sure if the developers themselves could write a perfect guide for them.
The Baldur's Gate 1 & 2 guides I looked at didn't get very good reviews, either.

Ironically the dev we all praise is to blame for it, imo. CDPR started it all with their witcher enhanced edition. I could be totally off base with that but this sort of thing really seemed to take off after that.
Off the top of my head, the only other developer that I can think of that did something similar was Harebrained Schemes when they released Dragonfall: Director's Cut for free to people who already owned the original version.
*Edit* After reading your post again, I realize I misunderstood what you were saying. Yes, it does seem like more developers are adding post-release content nowadays.
I'm not sure if it's exactly comparable to what CDP did though. For example, most of the updates to games like Divinity: OS and Wasteland 2 is stuff that was supposed to be in those games to begin with. It seems to me like developers/publishers are simply getting worse about pushing unfinished products out the door.

I ended up caving and bought the Baldur's Gate 2 - Shadows of Amn guide by Versus Books. Can't wait to get it in my hands!

I also purchased the Arcanum guide and of course the 2 Pillars of Eternity guides. I would like to start collecting these guides.

There is some bad info in the guide.
It says unused skill points are lost. Apparently it's not true. It's the only way to get skills to high levels. I may have bunged my cypher mechanic.
Now where is a good save game editor?
Also, there is a way to resolve the top floor of the lighthouse without boss violence that's missing from the strategy guide, as well as the theorems quest. The guide is really starting to let me down. Wonder if I can get a refund?

The guidebook and official guide came in the mail today, and although you all know what I think about the inaccurate information, I am very impressed with both of these books!
The guidebook is basically a lore book of the various races and history of the world. The strategy guide is really beautiful. Glossy pages, colorful, etc. Of course, it's not going to have 100% accurate info, but dang that thing is sexy. Both hardcover and very high quality.
Thrasher, you could definitely get a refund if you bought from Amazon or something, like I did. Amazon gives no hassle refunds. If you are looking for a refund on a pledge level, I have no clue how that would work.

No problem, JDR.
Get both if you can. Trust me. The guidebook is very nice, high quality, lots of lore and a cool little bestiary in the back, but the official strategy guide is simply gorgeous. I showed it to my mom and told her it was a $50 book, and she said, "Yeah, at LEAST." It's very high quality with gorgeous color and tons of information. All the unique weapons, armors, bestiary; everything.
I think I paid $41 for both books shipped from Amazon? Don't quote me. You can get them on there for quite a good deal, though, and I feel they are both great and well worth it.
