Pillars of Eternity - Two Major Bugs Reported

The only official word I've seen on them is from the original thread on the official forums:
http://forums.obsidian.net/topic/737…game-breaking/
…from days ago saying they had a fix (but again, still no patch).
Maybe they've brought it up elsewhere but the lack of communication and lack of action are pretty weak.
Patches have to be tested thoroughly, or the fixes and changes will potentially introduce new bugs. There's a process and it takes time.
It would be a very bad sign if they released the patch immediately after having found a fix.
They've said they're working hard to get a patch out this week. No need for any communication beyond that.

The main reason a cold beer is better than a mixed drink is because no one in my house ever fills the ice cube tray.
Problem solved.

I run into this game breaking bug:
Ranger companion disappeared
I can't leave my current map, because my party is not complete. Game over
So I can't recommend to play Rangers right now.
I'm too invested to stop playing now. Guess I'll live dangerously for a while.
Last night I did have a bit of frustrating moment. The game was silent, no music, no pitter patter of feet, no ambient sounds.
All my other apps had sound , but not PoE.
PoE is VERY picky about my sound settings. They have have to be set on the lowest (CD quality) settings, otherwise crickets. 16 bits 44.1K, nothing else. I don't know how it got changed to 16 bits 48K, but it did. And it borked PoE.
Took a while to figure out what was causing PoE to go mute. Oddities abound.

My bugs seemed to have been caused by removing Kana from the party…

From Josh Sawyer:
"With any RPG of this size there’s so many things you can do that I’m sure people are going to find something that we didn’t find when it comes out. Basically, we’re ready so that when people find things, we’re going to turn around and fix them as soon as possible; come out with a patch as soon as possible; fix anything big. Then we’re going have another patch after that to fix the longer term things people are going to encounter. It’s important that people feel they can trust us and that the game is going to be good when it comes out, but we know that given that it’s and RPG being made from scratch, and an engine that we haven’t worked with before, there’s always going to be some weird stuff that… you know… a few hundred people who might have played the game is not the same as hundreds of thousands of people… But we’re ready!"

You're welcome, Thrasher!
It seems to be related to which chants you have active when you dismiss him. At least, that's the theory that's being presented in the thread I linked. Unfortunately, I removed Kana awhile back and my latest save before doing that is way back. I'll have a look tonight and see if maybe I can't get back into the game by a) not removing Kana, and b) using the workaround fix to the stat issue for my characters. We shall see.

Great! The only RPG I'd recommend over getting back to PoE would be Planescape: Torment or NWN/2 given your backlog.

I think I also managed to miss all the nasty bugs. I didn't load any saves in maps companions are found, I didn't even know you could doubleclick to equip stuff so I drag&droped everything (I only double clicked on potions and such to separate the stacks), I don't have a ranger main or companion and I read about Raedic Hold crashes before I went there so I am skipping that part until it is fixed.
Only bugs that are irritating are that although I turned off companions AI (simple as it is) they still change targets and run off attacking new enemies and pathfinding is unpredictable.

After you interacted with Maerwald you are supposed to decide something and also get a new Ability through a dialogue.
For some players (including me) this dialogue never happened. Thing is, that it doesn't even look as if it was a bug when playing. Now I am hoping that they will be able to fix it retroactively.
So for now I encountered following bugs in my game:
->German Translation (horrible mess, item Names are mixed strings, like a spear is called "Intellect + 2"
->Kana has 28 Intelligence, item stacking bug
->Pellegina has negative DR, might also be the item stacking bug
->Bug when recruiting Pellegina (there is a quest, where you can opt to defend a guy, but this is never considered finished)
->Dialogue Option with Maerwald
And you might also consider the wolf pet as bugged, as its the only pet which has all attributes on 10, which will be fixed in the next patch.
Being aware of the bug regarding the doubleclicking on items and the issue with the castle, I avoided these so far.
Well, let's say it's a game from Obsidian. But it's really bad that it takes that long to fix such major bugs which basically affect everyone and his dog.

SPOILER
There is another pretty common bug in the optional fight with Lord Raedric. Unless you kill the two guards outside of the throne room first and then be sure to kill Raedric while in the throne area, the quest doesn't get marked as complete. You can avoid the bug by taking Raedric's side and killing the other dude. I killed Raedric without even talking to him and it bugged my game. I'll probably roll back and go do other quests until they fix this.

The patch is currently being crunched on by QA. If everything checks out, then you'll probably get an update by end of day tomorrow.Source: http://forums.obsidian.net/topic/747…3#entry1625275

Yeah, I was just so proud I killed his crew at 4th level and then the quest bugged out and I was super bummed. So…I started over with another druid. I really like the druids. They have several offensive spells, some buffs and are great at melee when spirit-shifted; though fairly light on endurance/health. Kind of the glass cannon build.
Outside of a fighter, it's the only class I was able to kill the bear with at 2nd level, playing solo.
