Default Witcher 3 - First Six Hours @ IGN

April 13th, 2015, 10:59
IGN is back again with another video/artcle about the first six hours of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt . So only read the article, and watch the video if you don't mind spoilers.

We'll have much more in-depth pieces on the combat, magic, and monsters in the game throughout April. Below are two different takes on those opening sections: one by an editor who is well-versed in all things Witcher, one by an editor who barely knows the difference between his Igni and his Axii.
More information.

Of course! Because the first 15 minutes were not enough to thoroughly spoil the game for you!

Yeah I was thinking of adding something sarcastic myself to the news-bit.

Anyway I said avoid if you hate spoilers.

I want to be spoiled about ingame trading cards system.
As of course I plan to concentrate on that first, mobs later.

And I'm 100% sure thorough details about cards are not in IGN's video, that's not consoley enough to put in.

Actually, I read it. I half expected a 6-hour video of the beginning of the game. That would have been hilarious.

Are you worried about endlessly respawning trading cards because of console design?

Not really. I just want to gather all possible ones.

In the last trailer it's stated you can clear an area of monsters in the game. In previous games it ment you do something (burn "key" corpses for example) to stop trashmobs from appearing and I bet the same mechanics will also be here.
Somehow I don't think this will apply to trading cards - it'd be silly that you, after collecting all possible cards, can't play the game any more. Cards are not living things that can in RL go extinct.

And this reminds me again on idiotic designs of Dragon Age: Bears.
While you can stop undead from respawning through the same mechanics (burn corpses) in DA3, bears you can't stop by any means. Not even by a mod as it doesn't exist (yet).

6 hours - as far as I remember what devs were saying, it may take longer to go through starting island. I really hope that W III will be as good as it looks. On screens for me of course, as I will not spoil my virgin run.
I don`t rememeber first Witcher that good but I think some normall mobs were reappearing endlesly. In Witcher II I`m pretty sure that after few kills they were popping up less often or maybe I just had wrong impression. I may play both I and II before going for III once again.

The Witcher 3 will probably be disappointing. It's been raised to this mythical level, the be all end all over open-world RPG's! I'm starting to think that it's gonna be impossible to live up to the expectations it has begun to create.

1) Amazing graphics
2) Real Choice & Consequence
3) Dense and interesting without filler content
4) Yet still huge
5) Great story and world building
6) Good exploration, including swimming under water

What can go wrong? Well, maybe

7) Lots of bugs
8) Boring and repetitive combat
9) Uninteresting loot
10) Impossible system requirements
11) Old-school pre-EE Witcher load-times?

Can't wait to see.

Somehow I don't think it'll disappoint as the probably most overhyped game ever - Destiny - did.

Six hours, what the heck? Is the guy playing not very good at the game? I am figuring in 6 hours I should be able to be half way through my second play through of the game.

BTW I didn't read or watch or whatever it is.

7) Lots of bugs They delayed it 7-8 months to work the bugs out

8) Boring and repetitive combat Combat is combat and I like the style in the last two Witcher games

9) Uninteresting loot Have you not played any of the Witcher games? There is never that much interesting loot. It isn't Skyrim where I think 90% of the game was looking for loot. Not saying I didn't like Skyrim.

10) Impossible system requirements requirements have been posted they aren't as bad as I thought they might be.

11) Old-school pre-EE Witcher load-times? no clue what this even means.

Can't wait to see.

I just listed some of the complaints people used to have with the previous titles. They never bothered me that much.

I just replied to those complaints that those people have, nothing more. I left nothing personal.

Well, had, really. The point was wondering where it could still all go wrong, assuming that what what PR has put out will all be true come release day. Going on past flaws, it could be, judging on previous complaints from other people:
  • Bad translations, animations or load-times (load-times used to be bad before the Enhanced Edition for the first game came out)
  • Lousy pacing/difficulty curve in the beginning
  • Too actiony/consoley combat (there were actually people complaining about that, as there were people complaining about Witcher 1's combat, too)
  • What?! You only have a steel sword and a silver sword in this game?!
  • I need a new video card (or two) for this!!

Not saying that it will happen, just saying that if everything that has been shown so far is accurate, I'm having a hard time coming up with stuff that will put the feet of The Witcher 3 firmly back in reality rather than Amazeballs Land of Impossibly Perfect Role Playing Games.
