Spiderweb Software - Ceasing IOS Development

isn't the permission to develop in iOS also a big yearly fee, like $500 or something? (or is it a one-time fee?) That would be a killer too if your margins aren't that great to begin with.

- = Warning: Boring Technical stuff =-
I think that people maybe missed an important bit about the “…Changes in iOS 8.3 completely broke the engine…”
Not everyone uses xcode to develop for iOS. Actually a lot of developers (especially indie small studios) will use free – or nearly so - frameworks for multiplatform development and will build their own engines-libraries on top of them. Problem is when something major happens (like the iOS 8 64bit requirement for example), updating everything and migrating the code can be a daunting task (which means if there is no financial incentive the task is meaningless).
We used to have 8 iOS apps that we simply removed after iOS8. It made no sense to try to keep them working. I can sympathize with Mr. Vogel…

What a shame! Already paid for a copy for PC through his site to continue to support, but had left it till the ipad version came out to actually play anything. His games were the only half way decent things on ipad (except for ports of things I've already played), and I'd have had plenty of opportunity to play it on there. On my PC there's just too much solid competition and an ever growing untouched steam library.
With regards to some of the comments here, I have no meaningful understanding of the technical issues, but would seem very odd for him not to at least recoup something on his time investment to date if the technical issues were minor even if he rethought his strategy for any future development.
Ah well, most likely won't bother with a replacement tablet when this one (already old as an ipad 2) finally karks it, super convenient though tablets are there's just not enough things that remotely qualify as games any more and I can get the internet on my phone.
