I failed. Can't finish collect all cards. Won everyone and everything. Got all cards possible everywhere.
But because before I got the best card ever (mysterios elf) I went onto the tournament
Outside of the spoiler, just do the tournament last!

Handling interactions for sure - you can't get to the critical point with just any interaction.
I'm just saying… Anyone who wants the quest done should leave the brothel gwent tournament for last. Why is that, info is in the spoiler.
Oh and I promised to say who holds the mysterious elf, a card I wanted since the beginning of my gwent career. To get that one you need to beat master alchemist at Skellige.

Obviously they haven't thought too deeply about this quest as evidenced by the disapearing prologue cards (which was fixed in 1.04) and there are plenty of other opportunities to screw this quest that are still in the game, according to rumour.

I am enjoying the Witcher 3, but it seems to me that really great game design
and attention to detail in some areas is offset by elementary blunders, oversights and poor game mechanics in other areas.

It's the biggest quest in the game that involves plethora of NPCs of which some can die or simply leave the scene for good.
I'm not sure why that quest exists at all - probably because there is an achievement of colleting all cards. In any case, you don't need to have all cards to win the tournament.

Yes but probably only those that disappeared not because of the player's choice but because of the world shifting.
For example, BB's card is missable not because of player's choices, so they'll probably patch it in making it obtainable somewhere else. But 3 cards you get during Zoltan's sidequest you can keep or sell. I don't think that'll change.

All right scratch everything I said.
I finished the gwent collection quest. Turns out I missed to buy 4 monster cards at inkeeper in Harviken. But that guy was not there first time I visited that village, I swear! Dunno when and how come he appeared now. I'm exploring islands some more. Not just him but also an armorer appeared.
Was it something glitched then patched with 1.05 dunno.
In any case, feel free to sleep with anyone - noone will steal anything from you!
