I was too busy enjoying the setting to worry about how long ago the bombs were dropped.

One of the most idiotic and foreign aspects to Fallout 3 for me was the overly cavalier and vacuous attitude it had towards nuclear weapons (Think "Fat Man"…) In addition to the god-awful writing, ("Steel Be With You!) this was so much in contrast to the darkly ironic yet somber tone established by the original Fallout and gave the whole experience a very juvenile sour taste to me.
Much of my annoyance and angst was projected into the style of character I chose to play as a consequence (An avenging angel type…)
As a post-apocalyptic fan, I still naturally liked aspects of the setting and atmosphere. The exploration is also quite compelling - yet I'd be disingenuous if I didn't acknowledge the shortcomings that frustrated me at the time. Simply put, Fallout and the folks at Interplay set a high bar indeed.
