RPGWatch Feature - Divinity: Original Sin II Preview

The thing with background stories is not only that it gives you different options in dialogues. The characters have different goals as well. At least they do if you role-play them according to their background.
If you control all of them you still have the different options in dialogues, but the different goals become irrelevant. You just have four characters working for your goals.
That said, I don't know if they can achieve an AI that can accomplish something similar as in MP mode. And even if they could, I have my doubts as well on whether this will work in SP mode.

Larian replied to me this:
"Hi there!
We think the stronger competitive questing in Divinity: Original Sin 2 will make the single-player experience even better than in its predecessor. We're also focusing on making the narrative even more engaging - which will make both multi- and single-player experiences more satisfying.
You'll be able to recruit up to three companions, each of whose character is just as detailed as the one you're playing, with their own origin story and motivation to help you in your quest. Or potentially hinder you… We think having so much variety and flexibility on the multi-player side of the game means you'll get that same variety and flexibility in single-player mode."

So….I don't get why you wouldn't control these guys in combat like in the original game?

The additional focus on co-op is fairly unfortunate, but perhaps it brings in enough additional revenue to pay for its development (and more?)

Like I mentioned in the other thread, you do control all characters from the party that are in combat and select which actions they are going to take.

I wonder why they're talking about a 2017 release here, but in the KS campaign it's 12/2016…

Literally what Swen said to me was: "I would be really surprised if we can deliver this game in 2016"

I think the actual release date will depend on stretch goals.
We're just about to enter the sci fi RPG madness that'll last for about a year and half (XCOM2, FO4, DX:MD, Technomancer, ME4, Elex) and I honestly hope non sci fi D:OS2 won't appear before it ends, which means 2017.
