Cyberpunk 2077 - Bigger than Witcher 3 @ MCV
October 6th, 2015, 19:11
According to this article Cyberpunk 2077 is much bigger than the Witcher 3:
CD Projekt Red: 'Cyberpunk 2077 is far, far bigger than The Witcher 3'More information.
Cyberpunk 2077, the next game from The Witcher developer CD Projekt Red, is the biggest title the studio has ever made.
The sci-fi-flavoured RPG was originally announced back in 2012, but the Polish outlet has remained quiet on specificities of the project since.
Now it has been revealed that the title will be ever grander in scale than the third and final entry in the developer’s sprawling fantasy series, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.
“Cyberpunk is far bigger than anything else that CD Projekt Red has done before,” visual effects artist Jose Teixeira told MCV. “Far, far bigger.
“We're really stepping into the unknown in terms of complexity and size and problems we encounter.”
The Witcher 3 became the fastest-selling game in the UK during 2015 upon its release back in May, but was overtaken by the launch of fellow open-world title Batman Arkham Knight one month later.
Teixeira continued by saying that The Witcher 3’s scope had helped the studio to refine its open-world formula for Cyberpunk 2077.
"The Witcher helped Cyberpunk quite a bit, because the game got so big and so complex that it really taught us,” he explained. “We really didn't know what was going to happen.
“If anything, working on The Witcher 3 was a really good and often brutal learning experience. Cyberpunk is going to benefit greatly from it. I can almost guarantee it.
"I have a lot of things that I want to change and do better the next time around, and I can guarantee that almost everyone in that studio has something that they go 'I did this this time, next time I can do it differently, I can do it better'.”
Unsurprisingly, Teixeira refused to give any clues regarding a potential release window for the title.
“The name of the game is Cyberpunk 2077, and we usually say the release date is 2077,” he joked.

I hope this bigger means more armor/skills/talents/etc and not a city larger than all the Witcher 3 maps glued together.

Let's hope they come up with a way to make exploration worthwhile this time around.

Bigger is not always better, but I am optimistic it won't be a bunch of copy pasted treasure chests like a lot of Skellige.

Interesting. I kind of wish they'd taken on something a little more fantastic though, Dark Conspiracy or Shadow Run. They have all the Cyberpunk elements but also magic and various races. Gives more options in combat, story and solving problems. That's why, back in the days of first editions, we only played Cyberpunk for a bit before switching to SR, the scope seemed broader and therefore was more attractive.
Of course I'll still be watching with interest.
It'd be awesome if they do netrunning properly.

I don't get why everyone wants to have bigger and bigger worlds…. I wish they'd focus on better and better gameplay, character development, story, CC and interactive world instead.
This is all Skyrims fault! It had one feature a big boring world, no meaningful gameplay, character development, story, C&C or artistic quality and for some reason people love it and it sold a lot, now other studios try to copy the formula…. darn Skyrim.. you are ruining gaming!!

In SKyrim likes, the exploration of the world and settling a PC in this world is part of the gameplay.
A certain size in a the world is mandatory for mechanics interplay to settle (Skyrim failed that part mostly)
Skyrim likes do not focus on scripted story as this would hinder reaching the objective of letting a player build her own non scripted narrative.

We already saw the difference, not just "versus" Skyrim. Wolfenstein needs twice more space than TW3 on HDD, yet contains max 10 hours of content.

It's just that size is a one dimensional feature that can easily be measured and compared. You don't have a lot of these kind of features in video games.
So information about size is often to be found in the headlines and everybody brags about it.

I want bigger if the result is better
For TW3, I found the opposite was true, honestly.

I actually enjoy a very large space to wander, but I think the problem often arises because they feel the need to fill up all that space with cookie-cutter content.
I'd be quite happy to have more concentrated content separated by large amounts of interesting landscape - places of interest harder to find through exploration, but more worthwhile when you get there.

I found the exploration better in skyrim then the witcher 3….it felt like you could find some neat things by going off track in skyrim where as the witcher 3 it didn't feel like it as much.
The witcher 3 obviously did some things better like the story was presented better for instance. But empty fields are empty fields…..not so fun after the first 20 or so.

I will start thinking about this game when it we are getting closer to the end of 2018.
Though it will be interesting to see how will run on the new PS5's.
