Default Best game ever?

Eh…I think that nostalgia is going through the roof here. Strange how people will dissect everything in modern games ( "I want to be a dragon!") but ignore a lot of cheesy writing or some cases of poor storytelling in older games…does anyone remember that silly run ffor the sarcophagus in Bloodlines? Or main story and the dialogue with the "president"/Hurrigan in Fallout II? Even Torment has it's moments.
Story and characters…top quality . Ton of humor, variety of themes, excellent characterization. Dynamic quest design with very good c&c for open world. There is some filler, yes, but I've never seen so much effort placed into them.
Very good exploration…atmosphere, handcrafted environment design with visual storytelling, monsters and their placement, fun combat encounters, sense of space and sustainable settlements, weather system, unique and memorable quests…it has a strong sense of cohesion and realism that (almost) all open world games lack.
Game play is a big step forward for all open world games…best dodge/evade system, great sense of rhythm, very fluid, well animated, nice amount of strategic options and tactics on enemies…AI, skill balance and difficulty are main issues. Not as strong as Souls or Dogma, but far above anything compared to western action rpg's.
Excellent visuals, facial animations, art style, sound design, voice acting and perhaps the best soundtrack out there.
Great mini game. Little grinding.
Loot was decent, but I've never seen this done well in open world rpg. Gothic, perhaps, but at the same time there was so little of it in those games, so balancing and economy came much easier.
Same is with difficulty and progression…it needs refining and more more "meat" to it.
Decent to good UI…they could have done better job with inventory. Solid crafting system.
Some annoyances…AI at times, glitches, auto sheathing, crime system, over reliance on Witcher senses, enemy levels and artificial difficulty, etc.
Overall, some mistakes have been made and they didn't put as much attention in some areas as others, but like op said there isn't a more complete rpg with as much quality content out there.

Some nostalgia, sure, and a lot of hyperbole and being dazzled by the spectacle as well

Well, that, or people like different things for different reasons.

Well, that's one small step for mankind but a big one for D'artagnan.
