Spellcasting

I played Drakensang Eye a long time ago. Now I'm starting up TRoT. So, far ok… figuring stuff out… like how to Fast Travel. My next hurdle is casting spells. I can drag n drop the spells to my quick bar (Can't figure how to delete stuff from quick bar) and sometimes I can use the spells. But, I'm finding a whole lot of time so far, they are darkened out and I cannot cast them. What am I missing here? I'm pretty sure they are cast off Astral Energy and I recover it rather quickly. Help please or am I suffering a glitch?

Using a small buckler shield found in market….. not sure what is made of… thought it was wood though.. I'll check that to see if is cause…. thanks.

Yep, I'm a noob all over again…. lol… seen "special" description…. since it has some parts made of iron… no magic. Problem solved. Thanks again.
