I'm sorry…I'm reading them but they're very different articles. What was the point you were trying to make? That chicks play smartphone games? Okay.
What does it matter how many woman, men, dogs, cats even birds play video games?
Why are they so many articles about the subject. Oh I know, why are games not geared more towards women then? Why are there not more women working in the industry?
Well by the links you posted it doesn't matter if that is the reason as women are clearly happy playing the games that are being made right now. For the matter of going further, maybe woman like these games because gives them a brief feeling of what it must be like to be a powerful man.
See if that sparks your interest.

Celtic, my point - in case you missed it - was that misogynists on this site use the argument "well, you're a minority so what you want doesn't matter". Well, we're not. You don't seem prepared to accept that, so I'll let you hunker down and pretend the world you know isn't changing.
My point is…we've got the numbers. We have a voice. We are a force to be reckoned with. And if developers - or other forum members
- don't want to accept that, then one day reality will overtake you. One day soon, there will be nowhere left to run.

Maybe 25 years ago I cared about silly things like who plays more. Na I didn't there I was just messing around.
Though your post did make me chuckle a bit at how worked up you are about this subject. You would think people were making you ride at the back of the bus?

And yeah. I rode at the back. I was one of the preppy kids, believe it or not.

If a game looks very visually appealing and has a rich story (Witcher 3 is a perfect example), then sure, I will put up with playing as a man. But I have no emotional investment as said man. I can't identify with him and his "masculine issues" (I mean, what are masculine issues? Razor burn on your chin?). But the story and the side characters (*coughYennefercough*) make the game worth it. So I deal with it until a game comes out that speaks to something I prefer. And this is the shared experience I hear from other women. Not all women, mind you, because I cannot speak for an entire gender. But for my particular circle of friends, this is the general consensus. Amazing story telling can make up for the lack of a playable female protagonist, but if said game *had* a female protagonist, it would go from "pretty good" to "THIS GAME IS F*CKING AMAZING!"

But if you want to ignore me please go ahead, I would do the same but I like most of your post here. I was glad to see you back and posting here…
What is with the Grandpa comment by the way? I didn't know I was to take this personal? are you? Doesn't matter unless you know something I don't know? As my oldest is only 14.

If you were aiming to convey something similar to Renethiel… it didnt come across like that.

Renethiel I was just messing with her, I really don't care who plays silly games, makes them, sells them. I play the games I like and play a few that I don't to see why so many people were raving about them.

Geez…what a silly clusterfuck of arguments.
Personally, whether or not I get to customize my character will never be deal-breaker for me. It's nice to have the option yes, but it's far from being the most important aspect imo, and there will always be plenty of both types of games to choose from.

See, cause if you want to go anecdotal…you're a bit older, right? I could point out how everyone I know in my age group who games (outside the Watch) is female. It's VERY female dominated.

I wouldn't sign this in general.
I myself can fully (for whatever that means) enjoy an RPG if the protagonist is a believable character in the game world. So instead of having to identify as the character I'm playing as I'd rather say that I have to immerse into the character I'm playing with.
One would be playstyle that doesn't require identification. Another would be a self-insert playstyle that does require at least some identification.
There are indeed people who don't care and people who care for identification. Some women care about this issue a lot b/c of the fact that it's more rare for us to get self-insert possibilities, and men obviously don't care much b/c their possibilities for self-inserts overflow. However, I know women who don't give a damn about self-identification and men who absolutely hate playing female characters. Tastes do differ, a lot.

Long story short, I don't think the need for identification is a general fact.
Just for some other people in the thread: in no way do I advocate removing male characters from games! Having gender choice is more than enough.

I'm male, but if I get the option to create my own character I always create a curvy red-head named Tyris in honour of the Golden Axe character. DA:O, Dragons Dogma, Divinity 2, Mass Effect, etc. Tyris conquered all those worlds.
I'd like to see a few more female protagonist options in RPGs.

No one is asking you to change your opinion, but we shouldn't make it sound like what we know is the only truth out there!
It would take us all too much time if we kept saying "in my opinion" or "I don't speak for everyone" at the start of each sentence. I think we all understand that what we're speaking is only our opinion

Too bad you don't know other female gamers. I came to believe (and it's only my opinion!) that it varies a lot throughout one's life, if you change your job or places you live in frequenty. At my college females were avid fans of GTA games, at my job right after college noone played anything! But suffice to say, males didn't play anything there, either. So I think it isn't right to draw conclusions about gamers and their genders based on one's own experiences only, indeed, otherwise I could say in the past, based on my experience with that after-college job, that men don't play games
