Darkest Dungeon - Endgame Content Review
January 23rd, 2016, 05:21
PC Invasion takes a look at Darkest Dungeon's endgame content.
More information.
Review code for Darkest Dungeon turned up yesterday. As I am not some sort of gaming savant, however, there was absolutely no way I was going to be able to play through the entire thing in time for today’s launch.More information.
You see, if my experience with Darkest Dungeon‘s Early Access builds was any indication, it is not an easy game. I’ve apparently shoved about 60 hours into it (across about three different campaigns, each with varying levels of success) and there are still bosses that remain unfought. Darkest Dungeon is hard, and juggling gold reserves, the psychological and physical health of your party, and the need to delve ever deeper into the game’s regions combine to make for a truly brutal experience.
A quick word of warning, too. If you don’t want to know anything about Darkest Dungeon‘s Darkest Dungeon – the name of the endgame area – then don’t read on. I’m going to try not to spoil too much (and, indeed, I’m only going to be discussing the first of the endgame quests) but there will obviously be screenshots and talk about monsters and so on. I’m fairly certain you can venture into the area right at the beginning of the game, if you really want to, but… well, I figured I should warn you anyway.
So, once again: if you want to play Darkest Dungeon‘s final area knowing absolutely nothing about it, do not read on.

This shit is hard. Good hard and justly hard, but its f-ing hard. Started over twice already in the campaign and this is the second day I've played this game. Very challenging so far and yeah makes you want to vent and scream because shit rarely goes your way. But fun nonetheless, if you like that sort of thing.

i already talk about this game in another post so i won't say the same things again but there is no need to start the campaign over cause the game has no losing conditions : basically you can't lose, you just have to send new recruits in suicide missions and you have always a sure income to buy stuff for your "a teams" and upgrade the hamlet.

Players want to see it as hard. Providing strategies dismissing the point does not help.

Since when playing a product as it might be played is stupid?
How is it more stupid than painting a product as being hard when the feeling of hardness is achieved at the cost of discarding simple, easy to apply solutions?
How is it more stupid than making the product instead of the devs? Should not players pay to buy a product made by devs and not by themselves?Devs did not want simple, practicable solutions? They'd not allow them.
What does not get hard as soon as simple, easy to apply solutions are dismissed?
Staging, staging all the way…

I would think most would not play that way because that is F'ing stupid. Most games you can cheat at or play stupid. People that buy and play this game are looking for a hard old timey rogue like game. Having a great time with Darkest Dungeon.
If you like old roguelikes (admitting we can talk about roguelike in DD -maybe roguelite-) you know that is essential for those kind of games to have a "game over" condition.
