My post sounds a little grumpy and this has obviously nothing to do with the port itself. My machine must have a hiccup. It was just too many things at once! Anyway, I have played a lot since then and now I'm almost getting used to the screen tearing, only notice it on occasion

Actually that's the least issue now. Just plugged a subwoofer and speakers into my laptop and sound is perfect.
