Expect me to heavily abuse the phrase "busted my plugger" in future posts. 
I know what could I bust if I fall and never heard someone called that a "flip flop". But a plugger… Well… Pretty much describes it.
Where's Corwin to shed some light on this?

Excellent! As the article says, a lot is regional.
For thongs (which we use) I have also heard zoris (in Flagstaff Arizona) and jandles (in Wellington, NZ).
