Default GOG - Offers Early Access

January 28th, 2016, 23:51
Good Old Games is now offering Early Access to games in development, which are DRM free.

GOG.com introduces early access, done the GOG way

All games DRM-free | 14-day refund policy - no questions asked | GOG Galaxy support

Warsaw, January 28 - GOG.com unveils its take on early access, featuring hand-picked games in development that are still being crafted and refined.

"Our goal has always been to offer a selection of titles that are both excellent and worth your time. Nowadays, we're seeing more games that are already great experiences while still in development," says Piotr Karwowski, GOG.com Managing Director. "We want all gamers on GOG.com to have access to what these titles have to offer, but we want to get it right, carefully evaluating each and every game, offering a 14-day refund policy, and providing GOG Galaxy support with update rollback and more."

The first five games in development launch today, fully DRM-free, with launch discounts up to 40% off:
- Starbound
- Ashes of the Singularity
- Project Zomboid
- TerraTech
- Curious Expeditions

It takes some confidence to discover games that are still being shaped - and to build that trust, every game in development comes with a simple refund policy: 14 days, no questions asked. It doesn't matter if you're having technical issues, if you don't think the game is fleshed-out enough yet, or if it simply doesn't click with you - all games in development can be returned for any reason.

To deliver a better experience with games in development, the optional GOG Galaxy client offers both automatic and manual updating, as well as the unique rollback feature.

"If a game update breaks something or introduces unwanted changes, GOG Galaxy lets you easily rollback to any previous version of your game while you wait for the fixes," says Piotr Karwowski. "As an added bonus, rollback actually stores historical snapshots throughout a game's development - that means you can always revisit any point in the game's history with a single click."

Today's five releases are just the first steps in a unique, new take on games in development. More titles will be released in the future, featuring a selection of the most promising games and those most highly requested on the GOG.com Community Wishlist.

The launch discounts will last until February 2, 1:59 PM GMT.

How about all games have a single huge lootbox you pay for up front that contains all the options, items, skins, unlocks etc? I'd pay for that!!

Soooo.
Starbound yes.
Terraria for space.

Project zomboid no.
Too long in development. Think vision is lost?

Curious Expeditions yes.
Good when complete.

Ashes of Singularity.
Followed but not played. Will purchase when its complete, not EA.

Only game I care about on the list is Ashes of the Singularity.

It reminds me of Supreme Commander.

Early access, what a scam. I'm not paying to beta test for them. Release a complete game then you can have my money, just outrageous.

Ok wait, did they say GOG, then let's all rejoice, all hail early access.

I am glad to see them get some Early Access games as I am sure they were losing sales to people that couldn't wait for the final release and ended up purchasing on Steam. I generally prefer to wait for the full release, I think Grim Dawn is the only early access game I have, but that was due to backing it on Kickstarter.

Starbound is the perfect example of EA gone wrong i don't know why they selected that one to start EA games on GOG, it gives the wrong message.

Not enough. AoS is more like Sins of a Solar Empire on land.

Are you sure you don't mean the abomination that is Starforge?

REPENT! REPENT! THE END IS NIGH!

Well, this doesn't sound so bad actually. Personally, I have little interest in paying for beta access, but if it helps developers get some feedback and funds to polish their game and complete it, then this is good news for gamers who despise DRM; as we all should.
