Roy Tomlinson? Never heard of him? Maybe you should, he's considered "The Father of Email".
From Wikipedia:
"American computer programmer who implemented the first email system on the ARPANET system, the precursor to the Internet, in 1971. It was the first system able to send mail between users on different hosts connected to the ARPANET."
He died on March 5th, presumably from a heart attack..
pibbur who had never heard of him before writing this post.
PS. Another quote from Wikipedia: 'At first, his email messaging system was not considered important. When Tomlinson showed it to his colleague Jerry Burchfiel, Tomlinson said "Don't tell anyone! This isn't what we're supposed to be working on."'
