Mediocre Monster - A reverse RPG Where you Play as a goblin fighting RPG heroes
February 23rd, 2016, 17:49
Hi RPGWatch!
Our game, Mediocre Monster, is currently live on Kickstarter.
If you love playing RPGs, you might like the basic twist we put into this game.

In Mediocre Monster you get to play as Gob, a normal goblin living in a town populated by monsters called The Grind.
The gameplay is split into two parts. First part is the battle system where in you fight against the RPG heroes. Your goal is not to kill them though. You have to follow several RPG rules (like acting more hurt for critical hits, dropping loots, acting based on elemental weaknesses and status effects). Basically, your goal is to have the hero parties experience an "exciting battle" before "dying". Your performance will be evaluated and you can then spend your money on Town improvements.
The second part is the Town part. Here you can learn many background happenings in the RPG world. Are the monsters really hurt? Where do they get their loots? Do they have dreams and ambitions? The Grind is in a poor state after FPS and Free to Play games became a hit to consumers leaving the RPG Monster Outsourcing business bankrupt. The town's mayor enlists Gob to help with restoring The Grind into its former glory. It is up to you how you would improve the town as well as what monster will you recruit as settlers. The town is home to several staple RPG monsters like a ghost, a skeleton, a family of slimes, a bear, a bat and a banshee among others.
See our trailer for the game to get a good idea of what the game is about.
For more detailed information, please visit our Kickstarter Page.
I will be more than happy to answer any questions you might have.
Thanks for your time viewing this post. It's a really big help for us.

Intrigued and should have been instapledge from me reading just the idea, but not sure - it does say PC&Mac but at the bottom are social networks and my Zynga hazard alarm is yelling like crazy.

… You mean the fact they made a twitter account and facebook page worries you? To be fair, I would be worried if they hadn't. While I don't care much for FB or Twitter myself, it would be pretty silly of them not to advertise their project. I mean, KS projects have a chance of success if people hear about them.
It also gives devs a way to easily interact with their backers. Though I may simply have missed something, but as far as I can see it doesn't say anywhere that they will release it as a FB game or anything.

Backed for $15 because this game has heart. Though I think people would be more interested to invest if you show a 15 minute demo video of how things work because i felt blind when supporting this game.

Interesting premise, but the art style is too JRPG-y for my tastes, sorry.

I backed it because, why not? I've always wanted to play a goblin, orc, troll, etc.
