The auto-saves in X sure are nice. JRPGs so often only let you save at their save points which are half an hour apart. If you want to quit between the save points you either throw away everything you've done since the last save or you leave the console running until you can get back to the game. Blah. X now saves every time you zone. That's still not a "save anywhere" system but it sure helps. (Especially in the late spring when we can go from blue skies to lightning in 10 minutes flat.)

The autosaves are certainly nicer. I did have 2 issues with it. The first is really a general game issue where there was a hard battle near the end that had like 5-10 minutes of unskippable dialog and the autosave was before that dialog rather than after so I had to watch it 2-3 times (rather walk away do some chores and comeback later).
The other issue was several times during the optional end content, it autosaved before a hard battle but you had to fight the optional battle when restoring from the autosave even if you wanted to avoid and come back later. I went back to previous save point instead after losing several times to avoid the battle. Neither issue terrible by any means and no one forces use of the autosave anyway. Also they gave that No Encounters cheat which helped a lot in avoiding unwanted random battles when retracing steps.

There seem to be a lot of folks getting crashing issues. I certainly haven't been keeping careful statistics but it's looking to me like a lot of people with problems have no dedicated graphics cards. The system requirements list off old (9000-era for NVIDIA) cards but those cards also have some decent video memory. I think this game actually requires dedicated video memory to run which is catching a lot of folks who see the 2008-era cards and figure their 4 year old PC can handle it just fine.

What do you mean by a dedicated video card? Are you saying that there are people without any video card in their PC attempting to play games?!

No need to stick to an area and grind2win on endlessly spammed trashmobs. The game will have that challenge feel and you'll learn to use a few tricks that way.
And then, a boss called Seymour Flux appears (it's the third time you fight this character, each time he's called different) and easily wipes out your whole party. This is the moment you need to return to area with arena and grind your levels for hours so you have a chance against him.

It was mighty close, though. He did that cross-guard thing when I had all the ladies out. Rikku was left with just 30hp and everyone else was KO'ed.
When I went in, though, I was prepped. Every aeon had an overdrive ready. Every character but Titus had an overdrive set up, too. First round Titus hastes everyone and Khimari scans Seymour. Oh look! Poison isn't on that huge list of immunities! Lulu hits him with Bio so the boss is now taking about 1700 damage every time he sneezes. After that it was pretty much just a series of raising characters up and firing off overdrives. Aeons got banished every time but not until they shot off their overdrive. Each one does 9999 damage and Bahamut's did twice that. Rikku mixed a pair of phoenix downs when she was the only one standing. Seymour's reflect didn't have any effect on Auron's overdrive then Wakka hit all three slots and overkilled him. I never even saw a Total Annihilation.
I did spend quite a bit of time in the Calm Lands but there's a lot to do there! It's a big area to explore. I did my chocobo training (the race was fun, dodging balls and birds not so much) and got started on monster hunting. Monster hunting dropped a chest I couldn't open, which got me checking some guides. I got the clouded mirror then went back to the forest to find daddy. I looked in the wrong place and ended up doing a lot of dull fights but once I found him I had my creature count for the forest. Might as well go back to the Thunder Plains and get those critters, too. That was a cake walk and didn't take long.
Anyway, I'm now sitting at 49 hours and I was able to chase off Seymour Flux in the first attempt.
I wonder if this is actually more of a playstyle thing than grinding? If a critter is worth 100xp then every character that takes part in the battle gets 100xp each. "Taking part" just means taking some sort of action other than getting swapped out for another team member. I take pains to get everybody in on almost every battle (though I did get lazy when going back to the forest and the plains - there just wasn't enough xp there to be worth the bother). If you like to just leave the same 3 characters in for several battles in a row, then swap to another 3 characters for the next several battles, you're going to find yourself with half the xp you could have had.
Yuna is particularly bad that way because her offensive skills are almost 0 and her healing can be done better between battles than in them. If you don't pop her in for a quick Null Blaze or Pray, she'll fall behind and those Aeons' overdrives will do far less damage.

Did you have the secret Aeons?
With them the end-fight is children-play.
The other easy-strategy is too have two casters that casts holy and one character who resurrects and hastes everyone.
A thief can throw some nasty bombs with the right ingredients.
There are more strategies that depend on your party.

My my.
First to say, all my Aeons couldn't output 9999 damage at the point like Zloth's. The first one, whatchamacallit bird thing, IIRC did less than 5K damage. In overdrive ofc.
Yuna in my game when I first got to Seymour was not level enough to pull out 9999 damage from all aeons.
Second, just cross guard? Yes, it can happen one of your party members survive that one… But then Seymour would instakill my party with another thing called total annihilation. You got lucky and Seymour didn't cast that one on you.
Third, Holy? I spent an afternoon to grind and return (and then I could beat Seymour) but Yuna still didn't have Holy at her disposal. It isn't a necessary spell on this Seymour, but I'll agree that Holy makes late game fights trivial.

I don't think you can get the secret Aeons by this fight - it's before the final battle after you climb the big mountain. I did have the ronin guy but I didn't call him out.
Definitely no Holy. I still don't have that one! I think she got Curaga going up the mountain.
How soon can the boss use TA? I might have gotten lucky there.
Edit: Nope, Yuna got Regen on the way up.

I tried it again. This time it wasn't even close. Seymour only got one attack off and it didn't work. Things go a lot better when you know what's coming.
I tried using the bird this time. BBBOOOOM!! Yuna has her super weapon so that lets that summon go above 9999. Seymour had less than 10k HP left, though, so it really didn't matter.
Here's a video of it. Unfortunately, I forgot to turn off the long summon animations. There's also some serious spoilers after the battle. If you just want to see the character stats/equipment, they are at 11:45: https://youtu.be/I2lAbWFPLYE?t=11m45s

Most of standard Aeons cannot output more than 9999 only Bahamut can generally. I had super weapons and I still dont think those aeons output anymore than normal. They can be still useful in that they are immune to certain damage or can absorb an instant kill attack instead of the party.
The secret Aeons are actually kinda hard to get without knowing the requirements and even then I missed the one requirements in the previous play through requiring a revisit. But the game is really easy when you do have them.

If we're talking about Samurai Aeon, he's not a secret really, all you need to recruit him is 200-250K $. The sum I didn't have. Until I returned to Calm Lands and spent one whole afternoon on grinding.
To get him you don't need to do horrible map exploration on unmarked areas (if grinding is a design crime, and it is, FF10 map exploration is even bigger crime!) nor you need to ride chocobo over a feather - it's in an open cave right before the third Seymour and all you need is to talk to him.

A feather. Not a banana to feed to your chocobo. Really, it's a feather. (But, if you think it's a banana to feed to your chocobo, things will work out better than thinking it's just a stray feather.)
