Dungeon Rats - Announced
September 16th, 2016, 04:02
A new game from Iron Tower Studio (makers of Age of Decadence) has been announced titled Dungeon Rats which is a turn based, party based, dungeon crawler mostly focused on combat. The game is expected October or November of this year. You can check out screenshots from the game here.
Dungeon Rats, named after the 7th Heavy Armored Division of the Imperial Guards, is a turn-based, party-based dungeon crawler set in the same world as Age of Decadence. This is an RPG focused almost exclusively on squad level tactical combat for players who enjoy turn-based games in general, and AoD's combat systems in particular. If fighting your way out of a prison mine - and frequently dying in the attempt - is your idea of a good time, you've come to the right place.More information.
Starting out as a new prisoner at the bottom of the gangs-ruled prison hierarchy, and of the prison itself, you must fight to survive and develop your combat skills, acquiring better weapons and equipment as you go. Recruit allies to your struggle or carry on as a lone wolf, and kill anyone foolish enough to stand in your way.
Notable changes from The Age of Decadence:
- Party-based - the most frequently requested feature
- Flanking and other strategic bonuses. Positioning matters a lot.
- Manual placement of your characters before a fight
- Charisma determines the number and quality of your party members
- Skill points are split between the party members: more people means fewer skills points per person and slower level ups.
- 10 possible companions, not all of them human (maximum party size is 4).
- New weapons, armor, and creatures
- 3 difficulty levels: Nice Guy, Tough Bastard, Murderous Psychopath

The screen shots look good. I didn't see any magic skills, other than alchemy.

I'm a little surprised that it's isometric. For some reason I thought it was going to be first-person. Also surprised that it's expected so soon. I didn't think it was going to be a 2016 release.

Looks nice, will give this a spin. I'm a little surprised they banged this out so quickly, but I'm not complaining.

Awesome! I'm getting this for sure, if only to throw some money at these guys.

They might get their lighting right even. Though Age of Decadence was so bad it would be a miracle if these guys managed to do something fun.

Is that the dungeon crawler they were talking about as add-on to AoD? If so is this a free add-on?

Afaik this is a totally new game based on AOD engine. It might still take place in the same universe.

From what I understand, they're developing this to create some revenue while they work on their next big game, the "colony ship RPG".

My two cents - it looks good, but I think the choice of name is poor. To my mind, the title conjures up some casual Steam shovelware game, and there's a good chance I wouldn't even look at it, if I saw it in a list. If you just call it Dungeons of blahblahblah, at least the sort of crowd that'll be interested will recognize it for what it is.

I'll buy and play it if only to become the Lord Dungeon rat myself!!

Any chance of online co-op play?
Also, agree with Ripper. It was only by chance I saw Iron Tower, otherwise I'd totally have ignored a game called Dungeon Rats. Makes me think its a whack-a-mole game, for some reason.

Ever the contrarian, I must say I like the title.
While I don't normally have interest in dungeon crawlers, I will probably pick this up because I like AoD's combat / character system and I'd like to support the development of Colony Ship RPG.

Age of Decadence has been, by far, one of my favorite games of the past year. I liked it enough to play-through as both a merchant and a thief-type.
This is excellent news.

I wish I could say the same.
My AoD run was unfortunately exactly the same as my demo runs. Get my ass kicked trying to combat every encounter then decide I'll come back when I have a million years to work out a better build and think spamming nets and reloading sounds like a good time.
