Startrail HD - Early Access on November 10
November 6th, 2016, 18:20
The remake of Realms of Arkania: Star Trail will be available as Early Access version on November 10:
The united orc tribes attempted to invade the region of Thorwal, but a group of valiant adventurers thwarted their plans during their previous quest. Now the orcs have regrouped and attacked other, more vulnerable areas – Lowangen is occupied and half the Svellt Valley lies in ashes. An elf ambassador summons the party to the city of Kvirasim. To unite the races of the elves and the dwarves in the struggle against a common enemy, they must recover an artifact known as the Salamander Stone.More information.
Yet not all is as simple as it seems: As the party approaches an abandoned dwarven mine that may hold the answers to their questions, someone else makes it clear that not everyone in the country favors a cooperation between the two races.
Star Trail is a faithful remake of Realms of Arkania’s classic sequel. This hardcore RPG features dozens of talents and spells, distinct races and character classes as well as a challenging isometric turn-based combat system. Obey your orders and succeed in your quest to retrieve the Salamander stone – the peace between elves and dwarves depends on it!
KEY FEATURES:
- Hardcore RPG with isometric turn-based tactical fights
- Hand-crafted cities and dungeons to explore in first person view
- Master dozens of talents including fighting and magical skills
- Meet countless endearing characters within the lovingly detailed cities and villages
- Create your characters and manage your party
- Plan your extensive travels through the realm in detail
- Based on the TDE ruleset as a hybrid between v3 and v4

How early, I wonder? Is it years away from completion, or 90% of the way there and they just need some extra funds to finish it?

Well supposedly they are using the same engine. . . I liked how the last one turned out after about 20 patches. I'll be curious what they are asking for pricewise.

I had a lot of fun with the Blade of Destiny remake after a few patches. It wasn't perfect but it was good enough to play and have a blast with, especially considering this type of RPG simply doesn't exist in modern gaming.
The release this time around will be better, I'm sure of that.

Can you imagine what one of their games is like in Early Access? And we should pay money for it?

No way. Never again.
If you say "No way, never again", then you are shooting down a team that is trying to at least remake these classic amazing RPGs that aren't currently anywhere to be found in modern RPG gaming. So that effort deserves support, IMO.
Also, this will be Early Access, so they can continue to improve the game. I think that's a smart move this time to help try and win back some of those who never played the first remake because of its release state.
Good luck, Chris and crew at Crafty Studios!

Blade of Destiny was so bad at release it was almost funny. I remember trying it very early on, and I couldn't believe some of the things I was seeing. The starting town had NPCs floating 10 feet or more off the ground. It was bizarre. The only game I can think of that was comparable is Gothic 3: Forsaken Gods when that was released.
In fairness, it does seem a LOT better now.

But yeah, it does seem a lot better now.

I'm actually pretty inclined to help out these devs in Early Access, if the price is reasonable enough, pretty much for the reasons stated by Fluent. I admire perseverance in general. Go get 'em, Crafty Studios.

Iv'e often wondered if the old ROA games really *needed* a remake. The're not flawless by any means, but still enjoyable in their own right. I've yet to play the remake of 'Blade of Destiny'. I bought it on release (ouch) and held off playing until I got a new rig. I have that now, but there's so much stuff on my backlog I can't find the time to really delve into it.

The problem isn't the developer, but the publisher. There is no way that I pay release price for any UIG software product. Their reputation is abysmal and there is a reason for it. Before I pay full price or upfront for a UIG product I'd rather install Uplay on my PC.

To me, anyone that tries to sell a shoddy and utterly broken product to the public deserves to be treated with suspicion, particularly given that any notion of quality control has long since disappeared from Steam. If they can deliver an exemplary product this time around they could redeem themselves, but I certainly wouldn't hand over any money until the final release, which had better be good.
