Oh, I didn't mind the "2 greatest songs ever recorded", I was just having a bit of fun.
Led Zeppelin is cool, and Kashmir is a good song (nowhere near my favorite Zep song, though), but every time I hear it now I can't get past the Godzilla soundtrack and the Puff Daddy sampling of it.
Certainly not my favourite version of it.

pibbur who likes the version performed by Page and Plant and an egyptian orchestra better, but couldn't find a suitable link to it.

The interesting thing about the Puff Daddy song is that at the time, sampling wasn't that mainstream. There were sampling controversies years before (Vanilla Ice, Biz Markie, etc.), and when people heard the song a lot of people didn't understand that it was a sample/interpolation and thought Puff Daddy stole the song.

I actually liked the Puff Daddy version at the time but it kind of ruined the original for me for some odd reason.

Ray LaMontagne is one of those musicians that's never quite delivered his masterpiece, IMO. But I love this track, in particular. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=yxcYH-8Ugk4

If you don't have David Byrne's "Stop Making Sense" live DVD in your collection, do yourself a favour and put it on your Christmas list - easily one of the great live concert recordings of all time.

I can also comment that seeing it live in early 1984 was amazing also!

Excellent. I've got all their albums, but I'd never seen the live DVD before. I read an article about it, and how it was filmed by Jonathan Demme, and when I watched it I was absolutely blown away.

I haven't read it - that's going on the Christmas list! I hope he talks about his approach to music, as well as the industry and his history.

"Democracy"

It's coming through a hole in the air,
from those nights in Tiananmen Square.
It's coming from the feel
that this ain't exactly real,
or it's real, but it ain't exactly there.
From the wars against disorder,
from the sirens night and day,
from the fires of the homeless,
from the ashes of the gay:
Democracy is coming to the U.S.A.
It's coming through a crack in the wall;
on a visionary flood of alcohol;
from the staggering account
of the Sermon on the Mount
which I don't pretend to understand at all.
It's coming from the silence
on the dock of the bay,
from the brave, the bold, the battered
heart of Chevrolet:
Democracy is coming to the U.S.A.

It's coming from the sorrow in the street,
the holy places where the races meet;
from the homicidal bitchin'
that goes down in every kitchen
to determine who will serve and who will eat.
From the wells of disappointment
where the women kneel to pray
for the grace of God in the desert here
and the desert far away:
Democracy is coming to the U.S.A.

Sail on, sail on
O mighty Ship of State!
To the Shores of Need
Past the Reefs of Greed
Through the Squalls of Hate
Sail on, sail on, sail on, sail on.

It's coming to America first,
the cradle of the best and of the worst.
It's here they got the range
and the machinery for change
and it's here they got the spiritual thirst.
It's here the family's broken
and it's here the lonely say
that the heart has got to open
in a fundamental way:
Democracy is coming to the U.S.A.

It's coming from the women and the men.
O baby, we'll be making love again.
We'll be going down so deep
the river's going to weep,
and the mountain's going to shout Amen!
It's coming like the tidal flood
beneath the lunar sway,
imperial, mysterious,
in amorous array:
Democracy is coming to the U.S.A.

Sail on, sail on …

I'm sentimental, if you know what I mean
I love the country but I can't stand the scene.
And I'm neither left or right
I'm just staying home tonight,
getting lost in that hopeless little screen.
But I'm stubborn as those garbage bags
that Time cannot decay,
I'm junk but I'm still holding up
this little wild bouquet:
Democracy is coming to the U.S.A.

It talks about that in some parts. He also explains, with real $$, how much it coststo create music for him.

I have made no secret that I love the music of guitarist Mary Halvorson - and was lucky to see her in NYC when we visited my older son for NYU Parent's Weekend last month. Now she has a new album, and I am loving it!

OK Go - I don't think their music is worth mentioning, but their music videos are awesome.

This one is called The One moment and takes 4.2 seconds. But I'm quite sure you'll watch it a bit longer: wha… what was that?
This too shall pass is a fascinating Rube Goldberg (chain reaction).
Here it goes again: nice choreography on a treadmill.
Upside down and inside out: same but now in zero gravity.
