The game got better! I enjoyed the opera sequence and the octopus fight was really amusing.
Still the game doesn't quite hold up to the likes of Xeno\Trails\Persona series.
I guess it was really great when it first released, but then other games outshone it. But it's an ok game. My only gripe with it at the moment is that I often have to clue where to go and sometimes what to do, yet the game isn't really supposed to be open-world. Some hints that tell you where to go are extremely obscure, I even had to resort to a walkthrough.
P.S. Uhm, 'this message is hidden because JDR13 is on your ignore list'. Sorry.

Also, you will want to talk to every NPC and pay attention, etc., to the dialogue. Closely sometimes. If you play the Android/PC version it has a Hint button that you can press that tells you where to go.
Glad you like it more now, too. It really is a classic RPG and one of the best, IMO. Old-school and all and still great to play today. The soundtrack is timeless as well.

FFVI didn't stand the test of time for me. But Chrono Trigger, on the other hand…it's as amazing as the day I first played it.

Chrono Trigger is an RPG everyone should play at least once. Life changing game for me as a kid right there.

Ah.. I forgot that Elel still ignores me because we have don't have the same opinions about some of the characters on Game of Thrones. I suppose that's as solid a reason as any.

What port are you playing? you got me wanting to play again.
Even if you just buy the game to hear Slam Shuffle on repeat for hours in end, it's worth it.

4 and 6 especially for me not only ruled my game rentals as a kid but sparked my imagination for years to come. They both really clicked with me. Although I also quite liked 7 and 10, as well as 11 which was an MMO but as fun one.

I really love the soundtrack in FF VI, I can still remember many of those tunes today. The game is still amazing, it was one of those JRPG's which still required you to think some, and doesn't spoon-feed you exactly where to go or what to do, which is also a plus in my book.

For example, when I needed to go to somewhere, the only hint I got about it was that a random guy talked about that location (without any connection to what I was doing). I'm also quite bad at memorizing huge maps, so wandering about aimlessly in search for cities on the world map is a little bit of pain. I'm so bad at it that at one point I kept going in circles and had to find a video walkthrough to see where exactly I missed a way to reach my destination.

And I'm not sure if it was asked of me in this topic which port I'm playing, but it's the Playstation game rather than a port. I've got one for Windows, but for some reason I felt like I wanted a full retro experience. But the Windows port seems to be identical.
An interesting feature of the game is how it does travelling sequences from the first person view. Flying over the worldmap, riding in the mine. I've never seen that done before in a 2D game. It creates a very immersive experience, like you're really flying\riding.

They really nailed it with that one. I love the art, too (though not so much the sadness in everything). I don't think they've ever beat the art style for the character portraits.

All RPGs have levels of absurdity, that's what makes them fun.
Where else can you run around with a sword that is bigger than you, befriend a guy with a machine gun for an arm and ride around the world on a giant yellow chicken while casting magic spells? And let's not forget the end boss's special spells. Not to spoil anything, but they are, err, pretty destructive, eh?
And why use a giant sword anyway? Be the guy with the machine gun arm, I'd say that would be much more effective. But RPGs will RPG

I am a fan of girly girls wielding ginormous swords or hammers or guns or whatever. xD
