ToEE - Icewind Dale Total Conversion Open Beta
January 7th, 2017, 20:19
Icewind Dale is being converted into the Temple of Elemental Evil engine and now the first chapter is available for open beta testing. You will need a copy of both to try the beta.
Ok, so the Demo version is all but complete, the entire module is uploaded into this modpack. It will require installations of both ToEE AND Icewind Dale and of course the Co8 modpack (mostly for the Temple Frontend) to activate, and includes everything in the 8 patches preceding this modpack.More information.
I'd like to open this up as an open Beta test version, will start a new thread for feedback and bug reports etc…
Thanks to everyone who has helped thus far.
Installation Instructions:
1. Install The Temple of Elemental Evil (not in a "program files" folder).
2. Install ToEE official patches 1 & 2 (not patch 3. GoG versions need not apply any official patches as they come preinstalled).
3. Install Co8 8.1.0 modpack (NC or Standard - doesn't matter which)
4. Install Icewind Dale.
5. Extract the Icewind Dale modpack zipped file to your ToEE installation folder.
6. Run TFE-X.exe, select Icewind Dale from the modules list and click activate. (a current error means you may need to force close and repeat the activation process - it should work second time around), locate your IWD installation folder.
7. (Optional) activate the Icewind dale portrait pack in TFE-X.
8. Download the IWD Demo Patch from the post below this and extract it to your ToEE root folder.
9. Activate the IWD Demo Patch Add-On in TFE-X.
10. Launch the game.
This total conversion mod presents the entirety of Icewind Dale's Prologue chapter, all quests, NPC's dialogues and loot (some of which has been exchanged for alternative items), are present.
Included with this mod is a custom Icewind Dale portrait pack which may be activated in TFE-X once the module is activated, which also includes the IWD default adventuring party. Note that to use all 6 default players, you must play a Neutral Good party due to ToEE's party alignment restrictions.

CoE is still active? Nice! This will definitely make IWD worth replaying.

Played some CoE ToEE earlier this holiday break, definitely be interested in trying the finished mod if they get that far.

I played both the CoE for ToEE and the Keep on the Borderlands conversion they did. I thought they were both amazing and it was some of the best crpg I have had in many years.
I played the EE version of Icewind Dale a month ago. I enjoyed that also. The ToEE combat system is one of my favorite of all time. This mod will be a no brainer for me. Thanks for posting!!

Gratz to the team. Honestly, with IDEE I wish they had done Arcanum!
I really can't think of a better game to get a EE atm.

Why IWD1? Wouldn't it be easier to port the 3.0 edition rules from IWD2 than the 2.5e rules from 1? (ToEE uses 3.5e)
Clearly this is just the training run for future 2.5e Baldurs Gate projects!
edit: Maybe its IWD maps with 3.5 rules? I suppose I shouldn't assume that jsut because its Icewind Dale that its actually Icewind Dale.

ToEE has the best combat engine in any RPG I have played so far, but the story in the original was just too boring to keep me engaged.
I would definitely love to play other games using the combat engine, though.

TOEE is the best implementation of d&d rules in a crpg imo. I was hoping they would do more d&d modules or a full game with the engine but sadly nothing ever came from it.
If they ever finish this I'll definitely play it.

I really hope they pull this off. It seems viable if they have reasonably efficient way of creating maps, as IWD isn't that huge.
It would be great if the ToEE engine became a popular platform for D&D mods. If were creating an indie RPG, I would essentially try to create an updated clone of that engine

Man, mods/campaigns in the ToEE engine would be phenomenal. I haven't played Keep On the Borderlands yet, but I heard it's good. The base game itself is really good, IMO. Some of it seems almost half-finished but there is a bunch of usual Troika weirdness in there. It was cool, for example, when I found out that characters will say different things depending on if the person talking to them was male/female, even leading to new quests and things. Lots of kind of obscure little things to find that the game doesn't tell you at all.
Good luck to those doing this. I also hope it leads to more mods and campaigns. That would be sweet.
