If that's true, that's not Mass Effect game but a phonegame where the screen is too small to allow more skills (displayed).
We could use any unlocked skill at any time (unless on cooldown) in the trilogy.

Combat has never been that high in the series.
The way they get battles imbedded in the narrative and get players involved is going to be the determining bit.

If you dare to look in the appropriate thread on BSN board you can see that my conclusion apparently was kind of wrong: it seems that it is possible to switch "profiles" where each profile can have 3 active abilities.
Don't know if that makes anything better… I guess we just have to weit and see how it really works.

Completely agree. Combat in ME games has never been strong. But then, most RPGs I've loved have had serious flaws of one kind or another. If they seduce me, I work through the problems.

My worry with this one, is that so far I'm not feeling its charms.

That's not official EA/Bioware board. And my proxy is blocking some content (advertisments most probably) on that page.

You had a max of 8 active skills in the trilogy, you'll have 12 in MEA with all your favorite profile filled (it's confirmed you can switch favorite while in combat).

The 3 actives at the same time are most probably a controller limitations going by people trying to guess on what button which feature is and not being able to fit everything already.

ME1 has the best combat?

Now I've heard it all Sure, it's by far the best of the 3 as an RPG, but the combat? Surely you jest. ME3, for all it's foibles, has by far the best combat in the series. ME3MP was amazing too, you must be my opposite land mirror image lol.

I'm not joking when I'm saying people can't fit everything we know MEA has into the controllers. They are trying to fit the favorites switching and all the squadmates commands into the D-pad right now (previous games had squadmates commands on D-pad).

On the PC (mouse/keyboard), it is confirmed you can hotkey the favorites though.

This is the key. Swap systems (due to controller restrictions) can work out fine even on PCs, but then we need hotkeys. If I can hotkey stuff to my Naga, it's all good. It makes no difference that I have to set it up with several profiles.

When someone ports something that doesn't mean we need it's carbon copy and abominable wasd controlled tactics view in Dragon Age Inquisition.
Porters should adapt the bloody UI to PC instead of torturing the specific audience that doesn't use mushrooms for the very reason to avoid the torment. But it's EA, why should I expect anything from that company that claims to listen to it's customers and take feedback seriously, right?

Yes, I'm whining. But I'm also (supposed to be) paying and it's not on Steam to thumb it down because of "I'm so dumb and can't count more than three" UI (wouldn't be the first port I panned). Not to mention it most probably not being not modding friendly to get SkyUI!

It is not even close. ME1 had vastly better combat that ME3. 3 was basically unplayable because the combat was so awful.

I actually use some mods to make ME2 combat more similar to ME1. Am I stupid?

I'm sorry, but where have some of you been the last 15 years? Unborn I wager? The moment Bioware stopped being independently owned (even when that angel investor got involved) most/all of us old Bioware fans (Baldur's Gate era natch) smelled the foul odour of rot. EA has done the same to every studio they have bought. Westwood Studios bring up any memories? Hell, Bioware lost all my confidence when they went console. As for the game, you gotta look at it for what it is, not what it isn't. I'm not gonna play a Mass Effect when I feel like a CRPG. For that, I'll pick up an Original Sin, or Numenera. I'm picking it up because I want a shooter with companions and RPG elements.

I'll probably get this as my biggest gripe has been the limited nature of previous Mass Effects. They felt too small, just never felt like I was really in space. Having this be open world is the natural direction to go. Like an Eliteangerous with conversations… nice.

Part 2 is up.

There is a preview embargo that ended today too.

People have different tastes.

Just replaying the trilogy and the combat gets smother for every incarnation.
ME3 is by far the most fluid of them, actually enjoying playing on insanity.

There are crapload of stuff to see today about ME4, some crappy multiplayer video (extraction countdown), combat P2 and an interview on VG247…

The most important tree from the rainforest is IMO: no level cap apparently.
Is this supposed to be a joke grinder?

It has no level cap because you can do a New Game + and continue to gain level in a new playthrough. A dev said a few days ago that you won't be able to max all the abilities in a single playthrough, so there is a theoretical soft level cap.
