Default Early bird or late riser?

We are talking free time. While (not) playing a good RPG.

In both cases, me: late riser.
But nowadays bedtime is not as late as it used to be. When I was playing Gothic for the first time even the birds and sunrise could not get me away from the screen.
Nowadays: 4 o'clock max.
When not playing a game: hm, 2 o' clock?

The only time I am an early bird is when I have to work in my garden on a hot summer day.

I hardly get to sleep before midnight here. When I bought Civ V, I got to sleep around 2 a.m., sometimes 3 a.m. Now, in my replay of XCOM 2, I usually get to sleep around 1 a.m.

I get up early. In the 80's and 90's I would play late into the night but now I will get up at 6AM to play a good game.

I have no "schedule" which is why RPGs with NPC timetables get on my nerves. There is no way to know when will I go to sleep or when will I get up. Both things happen randomly in my case.

Bed usually between 11-30 and midnight. Wake up at 4:30 am on week days and sleep in until 6am on weekends.

So definitely an early bird. If I wake up later I feel like my day is wasted sleeping. I would prefer to never sleep if it was possible. Too much fun stuff to do to be sleeping.

No real schedule but rarely late except when I played civ 1 & 2, and the original simcity. I was working 50+ hours a week then gaming till whenever in the morning.

Nowadays more disciplined although watcher 3 pushed the edges.

Early bird.

I got to bed between 10pm and 11pm and wake up at 6am (a bit later on the weekend). I rarely go past midnight unless it's Friday or Saturday (once I'm past 11pm, I'm not going to fall asleep until 1am anyway).

I can't stay in my bed past 7:30 am regardless of the time at go to sleep.

Playing MMO's all night?

Pretty hectic on this. I work usually 10 to three in the morning and have classes during the day, so have to adapt to it. But barely sleep more than 5 or so hours, more is a waste of time.

Ok thats creepy. This is exactly my schedule and what I feel about sleep. You my long lost sibling?

I sleep around 10 or 11pm and wake up at 3:30am if I have to work. If I don't, I can wake up anywhere from 7 to 10am. I have mixed feelings about sleep. I don't like the idea of wasting my time, but as I get [relatively] older my body f'ing loves sleep.

Bed around 23:00, up some time between 04:00 and 06:00, depending on my mood. In my younger days I could sit up long into the night, playing games, watching sports (for instance the Olympics). But that was a loooong time ago.

Did I read that correctly?!?! you only need 4 or 5 hours of sleep a night? Are you fucking superman?

I go t bed late and wake up late! On weekday, I go t bed at midnight and wake up at 7am or even 8am! These days I am hooked in HZD, so I go to bed at 2am but still wake up at 8am but feel like zombie at work and not getting much done! So once I am done with HZD, I will have to work extra hard at work to catch up

I work shifts that change from week to week so I have to sleep according to that. On work days I get about 6 hours in but I always feel tired. On my off days I cannot stay awake past 9:30pm and and then cannot sleep past 4:30am…. so early riser.

I envy the lucky devils that need only a couple of hours sleep. I need at least 7 hours, if not I notice I have problems with my concentration.

When I was young I had no trouble skipping a night. I could also sleep for ten hours or so, without any trouble I passed noon.
Skipping a night nowadays is a big no no, I'm a wreck for a day or two if I do that. And it seems I am incapable of continuing sleeping past 10 am. So if I go to bed early in the morning, that sucks.

Same here, min 7 hours of sleep needed here!

I am curious, those of you who can get away with 5 or less, are you fit and a gym bunny?

I am late 30s so not old (yet!) but my fitness isn't anything to write home about. I guess this is why I need 7+ hours sleep.

Being fit doesn't have much to do with it.

You stop feeling sleep deprivation effects after you keep doing it (they are still there, you just don't sense them). Sleep quality also has an impact and there is always "power naps" during the day for energy boost.

Also, the "7-8 hours" doesn't need to be continuous.

I'm 45 and fit but not overly so ( no one will mistake me for a body builder) my job is physical and keeps me in shape. I dont drink, smoke or do any drugs. Which is all good but I think my bodies just conditioned to do it from having the same routine for years.

When I was younger my lifestyle (work and personal) was a lot more active than today. I ended up doing a polypasic sort of sleep schedule. Meaning 3 hours during the "night" but several 30min naps throughout the day. On one hand it was easy as my body started to just shutdown when I was too tired and I'd blink and microsnooze for 1min without knowing it. On the other hand it was a bit harder as I'm a naturally light sleeper and making myself sleep was difficult. The slightest noise would wake me. After about a year it became really easy and I could moderately time the intervals when I absolutely needed sleep. The only side effect that has never left is crazy realistic dreams every time that have never gone away.

Eventually this turned into a more scheduled rotation as my roles changed at work. Mostly I get 4-5hours at night now with three 30ish complete rests during the day. A rest doesnt always mean direct sleep tho. I find its important to have no screens, no driving, no sound, no problem solving thinking etc for my brain to cooldown.

Maybe as I get older this won't work for me but right now its functioning quite well.

Also the thought of lying in a bed for 10hours a day out cold with no mental activity frankly scares me. Life is too short for me to spend in a coma.

One more thing to add. Even tho I detest mattress companies, their ads, their marketting etc…
They are right about one thing. Buy whatever you need to get a good sleep. Money is not the object. People spend 50k on a car they drive 15 min a day… how much more important is something you use 7 hours every day????
Quality over quantity. Something I didn't realize till I finished university and stopped sleeping in my car, airport chairs, the hallways, and cheap rental units.
