So, they got funding for new technologies for multiplayer games, and they are hiring multiplayer specialists. I really, really, hope this game isn't an MMO.

Noooooo! To both the "Seamless multiplayer" crap and the long wait. Although if it IS focused on multiplayer I couldn't care less when it will be released, I probably won't play it.

If they go for multiplayer, that would be a big disapointment. I hope they keep true to what made them successful: single player RPGs.

I think they try to blend SP and MP into MP mode that will allow ppl to play different professions in one big cyberpunk city. Its ambitious, but I think its not pesimistic to already say that it will somehow backfire. More or less. Hopefully less. And we can hope it wont harm SP gameplay.

… 'seamless multiplayer', 'animation excellence', 'cinematic feel', and 'city creation'…It seems like this won't be my type of RPG, after all.

Small scale co-op might be good. I'm thinking self hosted up to say 4 or 8 players, basically a party of PCs. Anything server side, MMO-ish would indeed be a turn off at some level…. Unless they actually manage to make it good, I have relatively low expectations of that being possible tho.
IMO they should stay SP (or small scale co-op if they must) AND include the tools for the a modding community a la TES games. With lots of scope for costumes, weapons, missions and scripted goodies with an rpg like Cyberpunk that'd give it real longevity.

Hmm don't judge before they release it… it could be done with a SP feel, if they construct it correctly! Very interesting!
Ask yourself why you like SP versus MP, and then see if you can come up with ideas that address those concerns. I have, and I have come up with answers.

I'm not gonna judge it before it's out, but this doesn't inspire great hopes.

And just how do we know these jobs are for Cyberpunk?

1. I don't like playing with other people. Coop with a friend or a couple of friends might be fine, but having other people in my game seriously breaks immersion.
2. I play when I have the time, when that is varies greatly so I can't play on specific times every day or even every week.
3. I don't like other people.
Multiplayer like in D:OS = Perfectly fine, I might even use it.
Multiplayer with a limited number of people in a huge city? = Maybe, but probably not.
Massive multiplayer = Hell no.

pibbur who like some others choose to wait a couple of years before expressing an opinion. And who realizes things would be booring if everyone followed his example. And most important, he couldn't post holier-than-thou posts like this post.

After TW2 I totally discarded that company as a console bullshit company. And they did TW3. Now they can say MP and I will just wait and see and hope

At the end of the day if they can pull off a killer subscription based service they will make a lot more money and build more company value than if they make apps that they have to sell as single units with no recurring monthly rents. So makes perfect sense to me in terms of their business. In terms of me being a fan of their work, it sounds terrible. Of course I want cyberpunk-world Witcher 4. Too bad for me.

They stated long ago that it would be multiplayer. So it seems fairly likely that these hires are related to that aspect of Cyberpunk.
None of The Witcher games have yet had multiplayer, but CD Projekt Red's futuristic RPG Cyberpunk 2077 will.I just hope it's not an MMO.
"It will be a story-based RPG experience with amazing single-player playthroughs, but we're going to add multiplayer features," CDPR managing director Adam Badowski told me.
