Path of Exile - Lots More Expansions Coming
March 28th, 2017, 11:22
@MassivelyOP Path of Exile will be getting lots more expansions in future according to a community Q&A.
There was no confirmation regarding a launch date for the expansion, but the team did discuss lengthening the ignore list, trade improvements, the Xbox One launch, and controller support. The team also hinted that there are "a lot more" expansions being planned for the MMO.More information.
"There are a lot more expansions coming, and they'll likely cover many types of content," GGG says. "Only one of our five expansions released so far includes a new act for example! We'll likely continue to make more new acts in the future."

This was one of the primary reasons I stopped playing - not enough meaty content.
I was quite surprised to learn just how much content is forthcoming. It will go a long way to make me want to play this game again, that's for sure.

Insane shit loads of content for this game, enough for a man-child's lifetime. Still, I don't care even if they made 28 expansions for PoE, but I'd kill for a better animator.
People hate on D3 but nothing can come close to its impeccable combat flow except Lost Ark.

A little while back I decided to just forget about the awful trading system and just play the darn game.
I lasted all of ten minutes. The graphics/animation are just sooooo bad. For pure joy of combat, D3 absolutely dominates it. Grim Dawn destroys both in build options and itemization, and the combat and graphics aren't half bad. That doesn't really leave a lot of space for a sorta-okay, early 2000s looking game like Path in my book.

I'm only interested in Lost Ark. And maybe after StarCraft Remastered they'll do Diablo 2 next? Unlikely.

Only real problem I remember is videos only working in fullscreen, which I was fine with as at higher resolutions things start looking small especially when in a window.
Honestly they should just update Diablo 2 to run more reliably and better on modern systems. Also trying really hard not to kill mod compatibility because I'd rather deal with the old version than go without PlugY.

Haven't played PoE yet, but D3…maaan. In terms of 3rd-person combat in an RPG, it changed what I thought was possible. It required some stick skills but also a bit of brain power, quick reflexes and the like, and was just satisfying as hell. I'm not usually one for animations and particle effects, but the way they are done in D3 just make it very satisfying to play; something the Diablo series always has. I also really liked the cooldown system, as crazy as that sounds, because it meant you had to actively survive and use other skills when you were waiting on the others to cooldown. It was just a fantastic combat system, IMO. I wouldn't mind seeing something similar in a more traditional CRPG. Something maybe not as loot-driven and more of an old-school type RPG.

Well, at least for the builds I considered.
I think Grim Dawn is the weakest of the three - but to each his own.
Lost Ark looks visually appealing, but I'm detecting a large dosage of asian grinder somewhere in there

Lost Ark is playable some where?

Actually Diablo 2 Remaster is very likely. Even more likely if BW Remaster does well.
But no, really, what makes you think so AA? I thought SCR is mostly repaying the debt to Korea for everything it did for StarCraft.

Anyway Lost Ark looks decent and I am looking forward to it but I worry that it will be filled this Korean type P2W and other crap similar crap …

I feel if it'll use a subscription-based model, that there'll be less of P2W crap. But maybe I'm wrong.

I'm sure there are ways to force multiple active skills upon a build - but that doesn't mean those builds are notably more efficient.
I believe I had 5 active skills or something like that, but as I said - I never needed more than 2 (apart from 1-2 buffs, but I don't think of them as active). Ok, ALMOST never. I mean, why use more skills than you need to defeat your enemies? That feels counterproductive to me.
FWIW, my brother and I played it independently from each other - and we have VERY different playstyles. I always play a variety of rogue/stealth dude - and he always goes heavy on magic.
He had the exact same remark after playing it, so…
Game was ultimately dreary and dull at length, in my opinion. Seemed much richer at first, but I was falling asleep towards the end. Doesn't help that the skills themselves look boring and feel pretty weak compared to D3.
But to each his own and all that

"and the vast majority of build options rely primarily on passive skills."
That part is not a statement of opinion and gives a false impression of the game. It's utterly ridiculous to anyone who's spent any time going over build options or even just looking at what others are playing. You can play that way, but there are a million options that don't make passives the centerpiece, and a quick perusal of the forums will show that most players don't spend much time on builds like that.
"Well, at least for the builds I considered."
That's a black hole of a caveat. You focus on 1% of the options and yeah, I guess you might be a bit limited in things to choose from.
"I mean, why use more skills than you need to defeat your enemies? That feels counterproductive to me."
You shot yourself in the foot according to your own tastes. When you go to a restaurant and only order a bowl of ketchup, it makes your views on the larger offerings pretty worthless. You can have your opinions on a game, but when you purposefully limit yourself to options you aren't going to enjoy, you really shouldn't be surprised when you don't have a good time.
