The overreaction over this is hilarious.
That feature is accessed from the main menu, so it's not something you see in the game. If someone wants to purchase extra items then let them. I couldn't care less.

Seriously though, it's a six year old single player game. It looks to me like they generated loads of excitement amongst their remaining fan base by announcing the new DLC. Adding microtransactions was always going to go down really badly with a vocal part of that fan base and contribute to bad reviews that put people off buying it, and I can't imagine it will bring in much money for them (although maybe I'm wrong and loads of players will be shelling out real money to buy in game wood….
. It just seems like a bonkers business decision to me.

Overreaction you say? If there was ever a proper overreaction, this insulting scam wouldn't exist on PC today.

I bet that's about Jim Sterling - that guy is probably more alergic on microtransactions than me.
But for all I know, Sterling doesn't advertise nor earn $ from advertising, he's into patreon. Maybe that changed?

I haven't seen it mentioned anywhere but I'm guessing one side-effect to this marketplace is that if you own TW2 on Gog, like me, then you won't get access to the dlc or the updates it brings to the engine etc. as I assume the marketplace is tied to steam. Unless they are working on a non-marketplace version (which I doubt) or gog can facilitate it (which I also doubt). Maybe I'm totally wrong.

I'm actually mildly interested in the DLC since I enjoyed the base game quite a bit. But removing the console in favor of the microtransactions is a scummy thing to do. Not because it prevents people from cheating, but because I had to use it a couple times to fix bugs during my playthrough (e.g. getting stuck in walls). But hey, maybe they plan to sell the bug fixes as well!
