Prey - Will there be a sequel?
July 6th, 2017, 12:46
@PCGamesN Arkane are making an online game next amidst disappointing sales for Prey and Dishonored 2.
A new job ad suggests Arkane's next project will be an online game, and probably a live, ‘service' game of the kind that are so popular these days.More information.
The advertised role is for an online game engineer at Arkane's Texas studio - they collaborated with Arkane's Lyon team on Dishonored 1 before the two studios split to focus on their own projects. Arkane Lyon worked on Dishonored 2, while Arkane Austin handled this year's Prey. Both are thought to have sold under expectations, particularly Prey.

The writing was on the wall, sadly.
Here's hoping System Shock 3 and the Remake will do a better job at waking up the mainstream audience to this superb sub-genre.

No Prey sequel - awsome news!
Arkane is making MMO - horrible news.

I really wonder if the low sales is because of Bethesda not sending early copies for reviewers or anyone. They're shooting gamers in the head by doing that, but it'd nice to know they're shooting themselves in the foot (and they're underlings in the heart) as well.

It was a weak PR campaign and the game isn't "cool" or "flashy" - which is a problem when you want to appeal to a wider audience.

I kinda feel bad for not buying either of these games (haven't pirated them either, before anyone gets the wrong idea), but I've discovered that as I age (40) I find first person games unpleasant to play, and am much more comfortable with 3rd person.
Games like Skyrim (sorta) and Fallout 4 manage to offer a 3rd person mode in predominantly FPS games, so it'd be nice if Arkane could do the same. Then I'd be all over these titles.
Back in the day I loved SS2, but these days I've realised I'm wasting money buying FP games. Except Might and Magic, of course!

I'm glad it bombed and that there'll be no sequel.
This is at best a mediocre game, at worst it's hot garbage. When even the mainstream outlets score it 4/10 and 6/10 you know what's up. Not to mention the cute 60€ price tag. Hilarious.

Prey was a fantastic game and so are the Dishonored games. People are full of crap. They all complain they want deep games with interesting stories, freedom, and reactive environments, and when they get them, they don't sell. Companies should stop wasting their money, people really want Candy Crush Saga and the latest piece of plastic crap from Nintendo. As for the people here claiming they were glad the game failed, I can't imagine what it must be like to be the kind of person that hopes and enjoys when something nice fails. What sad little, petty people.

I really like dishonored 2. Find it a rather good game. But then again my taste is not common like a lot of people at this forum.

Dishonored is better and cheaper. Apart from the first 2 hours or so, Prey is a banal game. And if you meet anyone who says it has a "deep story" just laugh at them.

Overall, Dishonored 2 is a blast to play. I might have to try Prey as well eventually.

That was sad news. Prey is easily one of the best games for me. Love the progression of the story, the backtracking, the changes in visited area throughout the game.
For me this was really a system shock experience. Interesting that so many do not like it. I would think i had normal taste… apparently not.
Good thing however is that prey do not need a sequel. Hopefully this does not mean that the way a story is told (like prey) is dead.

Game is at 82 critics and 79 users on Metacritic - which is far above average.
It's not a surprise that luj1 needs to fabricate lies to support his ignorant point of view - but I think we all know not to take him seriously around here
That said, who cares about mainstream opinions? I certainly don't.

Now Prey also didn't reach 85% on that percentage aggregator… It's easy to speculate what happens next.
For those who don't know. In my opinion Dishonored 2 (and it's predecessor) is a masterpiece and musthave/mustplay before you die. Prey is sadly not a work of art but just another forgettable grinder, if you're eager to buy it make sure it's heavily discounted - coming from Arkane it's so disappointing I wish they made it as console exclusive because that way I wouldn't waste my $ on it.
