Hello, new here. I have some questions about some games :)
July 26th, 2017, 06:32
Hi there. I'm new here. I have a few questions for you all and this strictly pertains to Steam gaming.
Anyway, I was curious if a certain few games are on Steam:
1) Fantasy General
2) Masters of Magic
3) Tzar - The burden of the crown
Reason I am asking, is that I know some games like these are usually buried in bundles on Steam and don't show up with traditional searches because you can't buy them by themselves.
I'm a huge fan of games like those. Other games I love (and I know Steam has these) are Age of Wonders, Disciples, Lords of the Realm, Seven Kingdoms, Knights and Merchants, Stronghold and Master of Orion.
Can someone point me toward similar games as the above on Steam? So I can check them out.
Lastly, are there any games like the three I initially listed above on Steam? Something similar to those three too and perhaps a remake of any of those three? (Assuming those three games aren't on Steam anywhere) - I know some games are remade into something else. Like what SpiderWeb did with Exile to Avernum.
Thanks guys

Hello and welcome!
Master of Magic (one of my favorite games ever), is only on GOG.com right now. I think it's $5.99 and well worth it. Works great on modern PCs and I even have it running on my tablet.
GOG in general probably has a bit more of these old-school goodies, and they are made to run well on modern PCs so you might want to check out that site if you haven't already.
Steam's search does need a revamp, too. It's hard to find these types of things as you say, they are buried most times. I still stumble on games on Steam I had no idea were even there (usually the old-school treasures like the ones you mentioned.)
Good luck.

I don't think those three are on Steam.
You might like…
Dominions 4
Fallen Enchantress: Legendary Heroes
Conquest of Elysium 4
Battles of Norghan

Welcome. I recommend avoiding buying games on Steam if at all possible. Although I sometimes visit game forums on Steam to ask questions or report bugs, GOG is so much better, whether because you're a fan of older games or just want to actually own the games you buy.
Anyway, although I tend to prefer turn-based games, I really enjoyed Lords of the Realm 1&2 back in 90s. Have you played the fantasy spinoff "Lords of Magic"? I've never really discovered any other strategy games quite like these.
I did enjoy Legends of Eisenwald. It isn't that similar to Lords of the Realm but reminds me of it for some reason. But the main focus is on the addictive turn-based combat system and on building up your units. Eisenwald is somewhere in between an RPG and turn-based strategy game. That reminds me I still need to finish the standalone expansion, "Blood of November".
I don't think I've really played most of the other games you've mentioned but I know "Worlds of Magic" was a recent spiritual successor of Masters of Magic but has mixed reviews on Steam.
Also maybe check out Battle for Wesnoth It's a TBS fantasy game that is free!

Hi thanks for the reply.
Were those Dominion games spiritual successors to Fantasy General? Because they look so similar.

Fantasy Wars is an updated version of Fantasy General. It's on GOG I know and think it's also on Steam. Fantasy Wars has some expansions also. Fantasy General is one of my favorite games of all time. It's on GOG but beware the mouse scroll speed can be messed up. I can't get it to run smoothly on my system and many others have the same problem.
If you like Masters of Magic I would give Eador Genesis a try. Eador is in my top five games of all time. There is a newer version of Eador called Eador Masters of the Broken World.
Finally, I would highly recommend Battle Brothers if you like Fantasy General. Battle Brothers is on Steam and GOG now. This site RPGWatch is giving away 10 copies. Seems like we enjoy the same kind of games. You did not mention Heroes of Might and Magic 3 which is one of the greatest games of all time.

Hi thanks for the reply.

Have anymore recommendations on games like these and perhaps other remakes of classics or spiritual successors? Your list is pure gold.

Civilization 4 with the mod Fall from Heaven would be a good choice for fans of Masters of Magic. If you do mods at all.
