Is ME:A or Prey worth playing ?
August 21st, 2017, 01:34
Well, managed to fix some gfx issues I was having with ME:A (e.g. screen occasionally going black after loading), so I'm enjoying it a bit more. Still not convinced it's all that good, though I'm one of those people that considered ME "okay, worth playing" and that's about it.
Re: Prey sound issues. Like Bobo, I have noticed some weirdness there. The voice of people speaking seems way too up front, almost non-directional. Some sound effect glitches, e.g. when I step through an already smashed window I get a split second of the sound effect of the window being smashed. It's not enough to ruin things for me, as the game seems great otherwise.
I only have onboard sound - Realtek HD ALC1150 7.1 - but it's not an issue in any other game I play. It was advertised as reasonably good onboard sound at the time - "Supports Purity Sound™, 115dB SNR DAC with differential amplifier" blah blah. I have no idea what that all means but I was quite happy not to have to buy yet another soundcard, after the last couple I had from Creative has issues or got abandoned.
[Edit: mobo is this one I think? http://www.asrock.com/mb/Intel/Fatal1ty H87 Performance]

Don't you know Bethesda and Arkane Studios are the same, JDR? Even though Arkane is in France and Bethesda is in Maryland, USA. Oh yeah, Id is also Bethesda. Id is in Austin, TX iirc. Bears have a hard time with geography, I think
Something barely related. I've been using the same Soundblaster Audigy in my last 8 computers. I just keep moving the card…

Well, fixed my sound issues by updating my drivers (thanks JDR). Seems obvious, but Windows 10 insisted it had the latest and most suitable ones. I went to the Realtek website and got their latest generic ones anyway (here). Things definitely sound better.
