Death of the Outsider - Has Social Stealth
August 30th, 2017, 15:13
@PCGamesN Dishonored: Death of the Outsider accomplishes social stealth using a power called Semblance.
Dishonored: Death of the Outsider delivers on the social stealth we were promised a decade agoMore information.
In Dishonored: Death of the Outsider, protagonist Billie Lurk has a power named Semblance. Using it, she can take the face of any NPC and wear it, wandering uninhibited wherever it makes sense for that person to be.
It's a central power in the forthcoming game. But when it was first pitched by the game's leads, Arkane co-creative director Harvey Smith was dubious.
"Upfront I said, ‘I'm not so sure about this power. Do you know how much work this is?,'" he tells us. "If I walk into a group of guards and they see me and go, ‘Evening, captain', that's fine, that's one thing. On the other hand, if I mimic a lady who's living in an apartment, and I walk down the street and go in the other apartment, shouldn't the person there say, ‘Oh, Mrs So-and-so?'. We're gonna miss some of this."

Interestingly, PCgamesN forget about a certain game we're discussing past few days - Risen 2.
Voodoo (side with natives) path in that game alows a certain form of social stealth in several main quests.
Me? I love it!

What about games like Hitman that did this with clothing changes since aeons ago? I mean, maybe the costumes there weren't of a particular individual so the characters didn't call you by name but that's hardly the point of this gameplay aspect and requiring something like that probably puts un-needed strain on the budget, a greeting without the name would suffice for me so whatever. I hope the game plays well regardless of the ability of other characters to name you as that's not what I would call delivering on the promise.

I'm definitely looking forward to it. I just finished Dishonored 2, though, so I'll let it sit a while before I dive in again.
