Dungeons of Chaos - Released
September 22nd, 2017, 07:24
The 2d-retro RPG Dungeons of Chaos has been released for the PC:
DUNGEONS OF CHAOS is a tribute to the 2D turn-based pixelart RPGs of the 80s.More information.
A game where you can create your party of 6 characters with a few clicks, or spend more time creating a customised party with feats unlocked in previous plays. Where exploration is encouraged and rewarded, with no level cap, non-linear side quests and a vast array of items, item properties, shops and enemies.
loading…
The game already has over 30000 happy players on other platforms, and most often they mention the likeness to 80s RPGs like Ultima or the goldbox games. It is retro. Your hand will not be held. It does not try to have realistic 3D graphics. It is not multiplayer, and never will be. If you long for the days when you traded your sleep for a chance to direct a party of adventurers through pixelated lands of exploration and battle glory, then you may want to give it a try.
And as all existing players already know, all fans and myself help out with tips and tricks, mostly on the facebook page but also on my blog if you prefer that. I do not provide or encourage having a complete-detail wiki somewhere, as the fan interaction on questions and strategy are a very enjoyable part of the game. So come join our community of DoC addicts and play a game where a troll is still a hairy monster you can kill, where there are no level caps, where you are not confined by a slim storyline path, and where it all starts with fighting rats in a cave/cellar. Fans have usually spent anything upwards of 80 hours playing it.
P.S.: apologies in advance for the puns in the game, but to my defence some were added by fans so if it is a bad joke you are reading on some tombstone or note just pretend it's from a fan and not me. ;-)
P.P.S.: I am very open to fixing bugs or typos. But I mostly use British English, so don't flag non-American English spelling/syntax please.

Helherron is the ne plus ultra of this specific genre. Too bad it hasn't been kept up.
This does look super fun though.

Wishlisted. Going to grab the Android version for sure though. Didn't see this on there last time I looked.

Bought this instantly, looks awesome and I'll be dipping right in after I complete the newest Divinity, thanks for sharing the knowledge!

Huh… does look pretty good. Is the combat turn-based? I think it is from looking at the video but I'm not 100% certain…

Bought to support. This will tide me over till the adventure mode of Low Magic Age is ready.

Seems interesting has anyone tried it on their phone?
I didn't like it. The controls are clunky, UI is terrible. The plot is extremely irrelevant and the dungeon crawling is meh. The conversations are really boring and the NPCs, forgettable. Overall, it's like a poor man's spiderweb game, and that's saying a lot since I find spiderweb's games pretty bad.
The game feels outdated in a not-aged-well sense. Inventory management involves a lot of clicking and it just lacks shortcuts and modern interface conveniences all around.
Needless to say, graphics and sounds are ridiculous, but I guess one would not be looking for those when considering purchasing this game anyway.
One aspect I was really looking forward to was the autocombat. It isn't good. The A.I. makes a lot of questionable choices which, most often than not will cause your party's demise in an otherwise normal combat. It's just not fun.
I wouldn't recommend it.
An addendum - the lack of tooltips is frustrating. Everything that should be explained (what does STR do? what does this spell icon do?) is not and you are left to guess about it.

The lack of tooltips is frustrating and it is clunky, but its still a great game and worth playing in my option.

I've been playing it for about three hours today and loving it so far. My only gripe so far would be that the rewards seem to be very luck based.
