I've never played the first one but I'm interested in this. Is the developer worth my $?

I enjoyed the first game… think of a light 4x experience but with, what I thought, was an interesting choose-your-adventure narrative style over top (a bit like King of Dragon Pass) that added a lot of quests and atmosphere to the experience. The game seemed bug-free and well designed to me - so they're certainly a competent studio.

I think the first one is often on sale now, so I recommend getting that to try it out first.

Absolutely. One hundred per cent tension free guaranteed product. They removed it all from first product to suit players'tastes. And they do the same for the second one.
