My speakers farted
August 24th, 2017, 13:41
There is no way to get them operating without noise (produced while they're not connected to anything) anymore.
Speakers are something I don't track nor care about much. And I want 2.1, not 5.1. Otherwise my neighbors won't be happy.
Seems genius is popular, should I go for these or someone has a better suggestion?

Price doesn't matter, looks doesn't matter, flashing leds are not desirable but okay. Quality matters, I don't want them farting in a couple of months.
Oh and the system has to have bass volume control. If it's not there, no buy!

I have these and am very happy with them:
Edifier S530D black 2.1

They work very well for everything I do on my PC (movies, gaming, music). They are perfect for a normal sized room -- mine is ~4 x 5 meters and I can't fully turn up the volume without damaging my ears. Got them for 240,- € on Amazon in 2013 and they are still as good as new. Excellent for the price, IMO.

I'd have gotten a 5.1 system if I could actually place the speakers correctly in my room, but 2.1 is fine.

Neighbors are unhappy because sometimes I burn the neighborhood up with Vivaldi on max volume and not their pathetic max3chord pop rubbish.
Nice suggestion, I like it although I hate remote control. Thanks.
Oddly to some, for ages I'm actually trying to move as much as possible, so remote controls are a huge no if possible to avoid.
Now getting them will be tricky. Amazon UK asks 340 pounds sterling for those:
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Edifier-S53…/dp/B003KN28JU

Forgeddit. Should get two sets for that price.
Amazon Deutchland doesn't have them at all. Amazon Italy has only white version (cca 240€ as you said):
https://www.amazon.it/Edifier-S530D-…/dp/B001KNT8Z4
Will have to check local stores…
*sigh*

Even 2 euros cheaper than what I got them for.

What about a really nice set of cans and headphone amp instead of speakers?

And it's black, yay! I don't like anything white, I smoke like a chimney so it all becomes yellow in a month.
Thanks!

Man, I respect neighbors, but there are certain sounds I want them all to "enjoy".

Try to put tiny "rubber feet" under the speakers, this might catch up vobrations.
I had / have slight problems with my loud speakers as well, but that's an rather unusual story _ They sit above on my clothing wardrobe (which is situated in one edge in the main room - I don't have much living space), and playing music makes some kind of "trembling bass noise" because they are not propery set up there, and I'm too small to get up there again. The vobrations accumulate through my wardrobe, which makes them become louder than I want them to be. Which is why I prefer listening music through portable devices these days (with portable devices I mean portable CD player).
One day I figured out that putting tiny "rubber feet" under the loudspeaker would catch up these vibrations. In fact, these "rubber feet" are seemingly actually sold in "music hardware" (
) shops.
I wasn't able to do this because I'm still too small to get up there again. *rolls eyes*

This is unrelated but I had my CD/DVD player blow up the other day. Just put in regular DVD, loud bang, and it ended up literally shredded into pieces.
How on earth is that possible? Was kind of funny actually.

Actually spotted a much better video after I posted this - they film the destruction with high speed cameras.

Way off topic but…
The music room had a pretty nice stereo system and all sorts of fun instruments. We cranked this up and played along with bongos and xylophone.
It was glorious! The spirit assemblies were so loud they couldn't hear us but the main office, half way across the school, sure could. They let us know that, while they didn't mind us sitting out the assemblies, forcing them to know we weren't there was not acceptable.
I was a baaaaaaaaaaad boy!
Now back to your regularly scheduled topic….
