Naval Warfare and Character Customisation Coming to Rune: RagnarokThanks Farflame!
Human Head Studios has released some exciting new combat details and screenshots for its upcoming third-person sandbox adventure, Rune: Ragnarok.
The information comes as a part of The Rune Recap, a web series by the developers that provides updates and details roughly every two weeks.

The combat in Rune: Ragnarok not only includes brutal open-world brawling, but also ship-to-ship warfare that players can compete in via the campaign, co-op missions, or PvP. One of the more terrifying foes that will be featured within the game’s Norse mythology-inspired world are giants. To defeat a giant, gamers must use everything at their disposal, including rune powers and flaming swords. Gamers will be able to create a Viking warrior and choose which god to follow. Customisation will play a large role in the game, giving players the freedom to reflect their playstyle by choosing from numerous weapons such as swords, axes, warhammers, and throwables.

Somehow i have very strong feeling that this will be another cheap Dark Souls clone with poor graphics and separate Pvp maps.
Darn, why there are no humble, self critical devs out there anymore - could not it be better to show some real gameplay and only then start to answer fan questions? There is nothing done yet, but everyone is so excited and have huge plans for how it will turn out.

I wasn't disappointed in the original and I expect great things here. Hell yes.

I expect an action rpg. For this title that's great. It won't be Skyrim. But we already have Skyrim.

I'm not sure exactly what to expect. There seems to be plenty of focus on coop and PvP, so I'm not holding my breath for awesome single player.

I went back to a review I did of the original Rune in comparison to Blade of Darkness and was reminded of why I have never considered Rune a game I 'love':
This game puts you in the body of a viking warrior, and you must battle your way back to your village to save the world from an evil destroyer and avenge your fathers' death. That's about it - from when you are dumped in the sea, your only pursuit is getting home - sure there is stuff going on in between, and you learn more about how the epic struggle between good and evil, between Odin and Loki, has come to the Viking world, and that you are acting as Odin's champion, against Loki and his minions.
As a result of this single-minded purpose, coupled with the fact that the only 'talking' done is in cutscenes with either the gods or the main bad-dude, the game never seems to take off. The hero starts in a nice village before being plunged into the ocean. I kept waiting to find another village, some people, some allies - *anything* but useless things to kill.
[… remove BoD stuff … ]
After completing both games it is clear that they are both very enjoyable, if plot light, games. Personally, I was constantly waiting for Rune to transition from the beginning to the 'meat' of the game, yet by the end, I was fully engaged. Blade of Darkness gave me a better feeling of motivation to keep going and complete the game.

Rune was a great action game. Killer fighting momentum and pounding score. It was great decapitating zombies and slamming mead for health. But that’s what it was. And Unreal 1 engine action game.

Ha ha wow! Well I guess I’m having some selective memory here. How did you find that? General search on Rune? Yes it’s pretty neat as all this data accumulates over time

I've changed my mind about quite a few things over the years. It's called being human.

Sorry I know it’s off topic but had to comment.
