Default Dead Island 2 – Sequel Is Still Alive

Seems Dead Island 2 is still in development after it's failure to release a few years back.

“Yes, Dead Island 2 is still in development”

“What’s going on is that it’s in development and we won’t be showing more until we’re ready. Appreciate the wait is painful, but Dead Island 2 is still coming.”

Who's the developer? Is it Techland?

I didn't care for Dead Island at all. I quite enjoyed Dying Light though.

From what I recall Techland lost the IP and it was handed over to a studio called Yager then Sumo Digital, and the publisher is still Deep Sliver from the last info available.
In July 2015, Deep Silver announced that Yager has been dropped from developing the game and development will be moved to another unnamed developer. The managing director of Yager Development, Timo Ullmann, later stated that the company's departure from the project occurred because "Yager and Deep Silver's respective visions of the project fell out of alignment" As a result, the game's separate development team, Yager Productions GmbH, filed for insolvency in July 2015. In March 2016, UK-based studio Sumo Digital announced that it took over the development. In August 2017, Deep Silver reiterated that the game was still in development.

As Couchpotato said, Deep Silver took the IP and Techland went on to do Dying Light instead. Pretty much a win from the gamer point of view, because Dying Light rocks.

I don't have much hope for the release of Dead Island 2, the whole development of it seems to be have been so problematic. DS didn't like Techland's take, didn't like Yager's take… I'm not certain DS knows what makes a good open world zombie game.

I believe I received the first game some years ago as a gift, and it was enjoyable for what it was, but I doubt I'd ever replay it or seek out a sequel. Then again, word of mouth can change almost anything.

I have to believe at this point it will be a rushed train-wreck. Perhaps it won't be but usually in this state the developer just wants to try to recover some $$ on the their investment. It might turn out ok but…

I liked the atmosphere of the original Dead Island a lot. There was something interesting about a warm summer resort full of zombies

The game itself was mildly amusing in coop multiplayer.
