Because I'm an overweight 47 year old transcriber. I don't think of it as playing dress up. I think of it more the way I would an appealing protagonist in a movie, but in this case I have the ability to guide that character through the world and make decisions for them, so in essence I'm the director (and to some extent the script writer) too. If I think of a character as being me, among other issues, why would I act differently than myself? Would I perform evil acts, for example? Would I lie, cheat, steal, kill? If it's me, no, I probably wouldn't. But V might.

Dress up, ah, you mean like in Roleplaying? Maybe that's the keyword here No, but i get you. I personally don't like playing evil, for example. I play myself, basically, but perhaps with a few advantages here and there, it is a role, but its also my role, i'm the actor in this "movie", i'm not watching another actor if its first person..

First person roleplaying = live roleplaying. Third person / turn based etc, more like traditional pen and paper.. at least that's how it feels for me.

Overall I think it looks awesome. The lack of transition screens is good. I love the level of detail, and the smooth transition between ground movement and driving. The glowy markers are a bit immersion breaking, but I suppose they're necessary in such a busy environment. I wonder how many of the inhabitants have significant amounts of interaction?

I'm 99% sure it'll be a lot like Witcher 3 in that regard; in other words, a very small percentage. There will be barks and conversations you can overhear, but most of those hundreds of people walking around won't be interactive to any significant degree. They frankly just can't be. Hopefully they will find a way to lead you to the significant content in a more organic and more personal way than the signpost system they relied on pretty heavily in W3.

I also wonder if it's true as they said, that everyone is living a life. That would be cool, if you follow someone he actually goes to work (or do crime etc), they have a home that they go to at night. It's been done in for example TES (very small scale compared to this) so it should be doable without problems. It's usually really simplistic, but i really like when games has this, makes the world come alive a bit more.

Haven't really though about how well it was done in Witcher 3 hmm.. can't remember to be honest. Not sure everyone had his own bed etc.

Yeah, I did find the UI a bit cluttered for my liking. I assume that's with the default options though. They made the UI very tweakable in TW3, and I expect Cyberpunk will be the same way.

You can customize your characters gender and appearance, but I believe that's it. Voiced protagonist, predetermined backstory, and predetermined name.

They haven't shown much about attributes and skills, but the gameplay seems to indicate they wont play that important of a role. I was hoping for more depth similar to the P&P game, but it doesn't seem like we'll be getting that here.

If this were the Cyberpunk 2020 version of Fallout: New Vegas, it would of been perfect. Instead it's a weird crossover between Deus Ex and Grand Theft Auto 5.

I like good character development, too, but I wasn't really expecting it. This was not TW3's forte, either.

Mike Pondsmith was shilling about how it would be a faithful adaption of the P&P game and stay true to the genre. It gave me the wrong impression of what to expect.

It’s a VERY nice looking FPS.
Too bad CDPR is going more & more on the action side.

Even Deus Ex HR/MD feels more like a RPG than this for me.

And compared to the p&p game, well…

Already pretty impressive! I think it will look and feel even better when released. I think Christmas 2019.
Guess I will need a new graphics card by then. This has to be played in ultra.

This will not be a hardcore RPG (more like a "modern" RPG), but if the story-telling is half as good as in Witcher 3 it will be a gorgeous game to play.

What's missing from the PnP game that would make it a better crpg in your opinion? Not everything in a PnP RPG translates well to a video game.

They could have made everything rely on dice rolls like CP 2020, but I think they made the right choice in not doing that. We'd basically have a cyberpunk version of the combat in Morrowind, and that's not something I'd want to experience…ever.

Instead, the combat is fast-paced and visceral, and because of that, some people think it looks too "actiony". I think it looks like something I actually want to play.

The only thing this gameplay showed me is, that first person games are really not my thing. Watching this felt like watching arbitrary shooter gameplay - and this is nothing I want to play.
Maybe on the easiest difficulty setting where the bum bum bulshit will be the least annoying. Since it seems likely that fighting will be the dominant part of this game.

I agree with Vurt on the voiced protagonist. I can live with that though. What I severely dislike though is that when you pick an answer in dialogues V spurts some nonsense that was not what i intended to say. I prefer it if I have a little more control in dialogues, even of it's superficial. And she sounds annoying, so I'll probably play the male V.

That's a small nitpick, in general I think it looks like a really fun experience. Way to action orientated for my usual tastes, but sometimes a game comes along that you just have to play even if it's nowhere close to the games you traditionally enjoy the most.

I'm pretty sure this will be one of those games.

Sorry man, but you're trying a bit too hard to troll at this point. This demo didn't show us much when it comes to rpg mechanics, but they gave some clear answers on how it will work. But this is expected: these demos are usually made to excite people and give a general flow of the game.

- it has stats, you can increase with leveling and cyberware
- skills, you increase through direct use
- perks you gain through leveling
- street creed perks you gain by doing missions ( possibly similar to PB games)
- wide range of cyberware that opens up completely different gameplay possibilities
- wide range of weapon mods that does the same ( like they've shown a katana with electromagnetic field generator mod)
- background customization options

In other words:

- seven different types of customizing your character/gameplay: this is much more than you get even in New Vegas

- four different systems of progression ( XP: stats and perks, By use: skills, Cyberware/Humanity cost, and world/Opening new areas: Street cred)

Not going to watch this - as I'm already over-hyped for the game. I expect it will be at least a full year until it's released - and I don't need to put myself through this kind of thing.

It's the sort of game I want to go into blind - or as blind as possible.

I hyped myself too much for Witcher 3 - and found it very underwhelming in the gameplay department, because I was foolish enough to assume CDPR could do no wrong after Witcher 2. I'd rather expect as little as possible here.

That said, I'm glad to hear people are liking it.

I'm sure we'll control the drone directly, like the Rigger class do in Shadowrun.
That cyclop ganger dude is basically making a gameplay demonstration for us.

I don't know for personal cloaking devices though, It's seems really advanced tech and I don't remember those being available for players in Cyberpunk 2020. But it's CDPro's 2077 spin on it so, yeah… maybe.
