Wizardry 1 - Chat with the Mad Overlord
September 11th, 2018, 09:51
Retronauts had a chat with Robert Woodhead about Wizardry.
There's no studio segment this time, as Robert was kind enough to sit down for a full recording session and share anecdotes and memories about the origins of Wizardry. No doubt this material old hat to him, but for myself (and I'm sure many others!), it's a fascinating look at the earliest days of computing and a tribute to the importance of PLATO, a networked computing platform that shaped the careers of many game designers.More information.
So: Enjoy! And huge thanks to Robert for taking the time to participate in this episode.

This site has lots of retro goodness
On Ultima
https://retronauts.com/article/881/e…word-on-ultima
On Bard's Tale
https://retronauts.com/article/932/t…n-podcast-form
On retro "online" gaming back in the day
https://retronauts.com/article/927/r…in-episode-164
There's JRPG stuff and BioShock stuff too.
The only thing I don't like about the site is there's not a nice list of its archive I can find yet.

Yup, an instant purchase for me if any of these classic beauties ever rise up on great old games.

The Llylgamyn Trilogy is probably the best version of of the first three games.
I was quite shocked how good they looked just on my NES Classic.
Its much better than the wireframe.

Due to the various copyright entanglements the first five titles from the main series are not available in a digital form and they are really hard to find (and insanely expensive) on a physical media.

Yeah I have the three latter games already, I was speaking more on buying the first five instantly, should they ever pop up on great old games.

I just realized there's something wrong with the title of this interview.
Its Werdna that's the Mad Overlord; Trebor just sucks.
